I would like to do what I could to make the experience more comfortable for our guys who find themselves out there. The challenge would be significant also and I cannot discount the rewards. What field do you currently work in? Electrical installations and commercial maintenance. What fields have you worked in before? Construction, mining, senior supervisory positions. What qualifications do you hold? City & Guilds "B" Certificate Electrical Installation B.S. 7671 17th edition regulations B.S.2391 inspection and testing NEBOSH Health and Safety certifcate. PASMA tower scaffold construction (up to 12mts) CSCS health and safety passport Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I consider skills to be more valuable, because experience has taught me that someone with good acedemic qualifications cannot always transfer that knowledge into practice. People who learn from the ground up are usually better in practice than people who are fast tracked because of their acedemic ahievements. Describe the benefits of working with others Primarily the benefits of working with others is the opportunity to see how they function and for them to see how you function and to learn from each other. The right people working together fosters good teamwork and enables the task to be completed quickly and to a generally higher standard. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone is beneficial if the job in hand does not require additional people, it is often easier to achieve higher concentration levels, working with someone who does not have the same work ethic as yourself can make working alone a more attractive proposition What was your worst working experience? As a very inexperienced mine worker I was involved in an incident which lead to the death of one of my senior colleagues, this affected me deeply at the time and took a while to overcome. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? To listen to people who are more experienced than yourself and not to take unecessary risks. What unique skills do you have? I have a calm head and the ability to solve most problems at my level. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Running a team of men working on a new project for the military. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The field is varied with many interesting aspects, no two contracts are quite the same and learning new techniques is probably the most interesting. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Cleaning up at the end of the job. Why should you be considered for a position? I am totally commited to any task I undertake, I am hardworking and honest and will admit to mistakes, however I find that generally I make very few mistakes most of which are minor.
