Human Resources in A MINING AND REFINERY INDUSTRY What fields have you worked in before? in the energy industry What qualifications do you hold? a Social Science Bachelors Degree in HRM a Labour Relations Diploma currently studying towards a Training Diploma Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? i consider both. none works in a vacuum. one can have the formal education but without the necessary skills one is as good as a text book;we can always refer back to . also one can have the right skills but without the right knowledge one is not complete. theory needs to be supported by practice and the reverse is true. this also bring the notion of efficiency and effective. with education one is effective but not efficient and with skills is efficient and not effective. however, we need both effectiveness and efficiency to be productive. so its neccesary for both Describe the benefits of working with others the major advantage is that people can share ideas and thus add value to the work in question. what one knows might not be what the other knows,so by combining ideas, more is gained. also, errors can be identified and remedied if working in groups. it also makes work easier and interesting when done in with others. however it depends, there are other jobs which need maximum concentration and best done alone. and of course there people who do well working alone. these are psychologically referred to as the type A personality Describe the benefits of working alone work gets done quickly when when done individually It reduces conflict associated with group work problems of accountability are eliminated performance management and measurement is not complex What was your worst working experience? when i worked in a male dominated environment and got steroyped What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? in my field of work,i meet different people of different backgrounds,gender,personality and level. this can pose to be a challenge as everyday work means more human interaction. the major lesson i learnt was to treat each individual separately and with total respect irregardless of the differences.effective communication is also the best tool in business especially when dealing with people. basically i learnt to respect people What unique skills do you have? i have the greatest communication skills and very good relations with people. i interact very well with people no matter what background. i also am very analytical and thus good at identifying problems and suggesting solutions. lastly, i have very good and convincing presentation skills that can deliver the message as intended and more What would you consider as your 'dream job'? i love consultancy. i love researching and reading and my dream job will to be my own boss where people bring their problems to me and i suggest working solutions.it would put a smile to my face just to know i have helped somewhere where someone was stuck. seeing them happy with my solution and presentation would be the best. that coupled with a bit of Labour Law will the best job for me.
