Seeking accounting & finance roles in Algeria for English speakersWhat type of job are you looking for? I am seeking an accounting or finance role in Algeria which requires fluent English. What nationality are you? Irish What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English - Fluent French - Basic Arabic - Very basic What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Ideally I would prefer to work for a company based in Algers. But I would also consider roles located in Oran, Constantine, Annaba, Bejaia, Jijel etc. I have basic French and very basic Arabic language skills which I would love to develop by living and working in Algeria. I have been to Algeria a number of times and I love the country, its people, and its culture. What countries have you worked in? Ireland (Dublin) and England (London) What countries do you have a visa to work in? None - I would require a visa to work in Algeria. But my husband is Algerian and if I were to live there I would be eligible to apply for a residence permit and passport What field do you currently work in? I currently work for a US Multinational Software company. I prepare the management accounts for 4 entities (UK, Sweden & Finland) under US GAAP and then convert them to local GAAP. I am proficient in IFRS, direct and indirect tax. What fields have you worked in before? Prior to my current job I worked for a top 5 global accountancy firm as a tax senior. It was my job to manage the tax compliance and advisory requirements for a portfolio of 53 clients. What qualifications do you hold? I am a fully qualified member of the UK Association of Certified Chartered Accountants. I hold a BA degree in Accounting & Finance from a top London University. Also I am currently studying for an Advanced Diploma in International Tax Law with the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I believe that both are extremely valuable. For me, it is important to have a good balance of both education and workplace skills in order to continually develop my career. I have worked and studied continuously since I was 15, and I believe that this has enabled me to continually develop my skills and utilise the knowledge from my education in the workplace. Able to make decisions quickly. What was your worst working experience? When I was a young student I worked for a high street retail company. They were very disorganised and unproductive. They were not open to suggestions on improving their service to customers, becoming more productive, saving time or saving money for the company. I found that very frustrating. I was only a student worker so I was not in a position to be able to influence the staff or management into embracing change. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? The most important lesson I have learnt is that it is very important to be supportive and encouraging of colleagues at all levels in order to get their best efforts each day, and to create a pleasant work environment. Encouragement, praise and recognition of peoples achievements in work is very important in order to keep them motivated. What unique skills do you have? I have a good knowledge of various accounting regulations, such as US GAAP, IFRS, UK GAAP, Swedish GAP, and Sarbanes Oxley Controls. I also have a good knowledge of international tax issues. And I am very interested in corporate governance and commercial ethics. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job would be one which combined both accounting and tax, which had a strategic business focus and which enabled me to lead and develop a team of finance professionals. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? I am constantly learning as new accounting regulations are issued, new finance budgets come into force, tax laws become stricter and global business and technology changes. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? I dont know of any aspect of accounting, finance or tax that I do not find interesting. How can potential employers contact you?
