25 years construction and remodel exp. from U.S.

What type of job are you looking for?

Construction superintendant or crew leader for a company here in Algeria. I will also perform construction work if needed.

What nationality are you?

American working on Algerian residency.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

Native English speaker at college level. I can communicate effectively on a construction worksite in Spanish.

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

I would like to work in Algeria. My wife is Algerian and we moved here a year ago. I will consider moving to Indonesia or Malaysia for work also.

What countries have you worked in?

The United States in the states of California, Colorado and Arizona.

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

Algeria

What field do you currently work in?

Construction, remodeling, and building repairs.

What fields have you worked in before?

Tile installation, bathroom remodeling, hard flooring installation company owner with 6 employees. My company serviced three large home builders in tract work (installing in many homes at once).

I taught Tile installation classes at community education venues for colleges in California. Started and sold a tile store. Did custom bathroom remodeling (all phases of work).

Had a video buisness on the side for three years.

Serviced cabinet installation companies, installing countertops and backsplashes and related work in Kitchens and bathrooms. I am also skilled at installing tile or stone fireplaces, patios, and doing custom jacuzzi and shower work plus circular snail/euro showers with glass block windows.

I can work with and bullnose marble, granite, slate and stone tiles.

What qualifications do you hold?

Had a California Contractors license for many years.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

This question is not specific enough. Each person has their own apptitude and developes skillsets according to the environment and education plus experience they are exposed to. For me, skills are not attained without experience and education plus practice. Formal education is good for those working in an arena that requires high level communication and decision making via a common mindset which comes from a standard collge education. Common skills are valuable to get the nuts and bolts of a job done. The person with the work qnd fqbricqtion skills is valuable to the formally educated planner and vice versa.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Working with others gives one an opportunity to learn. To learn as a student or as a teacher. There are always things to learn or share from earch persons mindset. Working with others also minimizes monotony on a job and thus creates a safer more aware environment. Good workers keep each other in the present.

Describe the benefits of working alone

If the job being performed is of a meticulous nature, working alone could lower the distraction level. Working alone is preferred by me when I am working with tight tolerances and with high powered tools unless my workmate is in tune with me and with the job being performed.

What was your worst working experience?

Working in a custom home in Arizona. The other workers in the house had no respect for each other, or each others finished product, and the tension was very high.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

Pay attention to the total workspace and get agreements from everyone involved in that space before beginning a job.

What unique skills do you have?

I am very good with people and am obsessed with producing exactly what the customer wants. Half of a succesfuol finished job is communication.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

Running an Orphanage.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

The artwok of it all. I love to see a beautiful finished procut and a big smile on the face of my client. BTW.....A happy customer is always happy to write a check.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

The rough in work and carrying the material to the site.

Who is your favorite worksite helper?

My wife who speaks English, Algerian and French.....all fluently. She has worked with me for three years in the U.S. and is a university graduate in Constantine.
