Catering offshoreWhat type of job are you looking for? I am looking for work offshore, catering manager or a similar position What nationality are you? South African What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English and afrikaans (Excellent) What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Angola or one of the nearest offshore rigs along the African coast. I am South African so work permits should not be a problem What countries have you worked in? United Kingdom and Holland and Namibia What countries do you have a visa to work in? At the moment I am living in South Africa so I do not have any current work visas for other countries What field do you currently work in? I have been involved in hospitality and catering for over twenty years. I am currently employed for Fechters Sawmills What fields have you worked in before? Restaurant management. Hotel Management. Outdoor catering for film shoots. Large scale event catering. Sales and management. Fishing charters and adventure tours. What qualifications do you hold? I have maric with univercity exemption. Two years technikon. SBDC certificate and twenty years hands on experiance in the catering industry. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I am a hands on person and believe you only learn from experiance. The harder you work the more knowledge you gain and the more you can apply your skills to a given position. Describe the benefits of working with others Team work is always important. The end product will only be a soccess if team work is applied. Its the role of every person in the team to see the end result. Be it cooking for 100 people or winning a football match. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone can allow an individual to produce alot more in certain fields. This depends entirely on the job description What was your worst working experience? Spending a year in the corporate field selling life insurence. Sometimes you can see a client cannot afford a policy and it was my job to sell them. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Leadership and quality in everything I do. I take pride in what I do and give my best in any given siuation, as well as working with the team in any enviroment. There is nothing better than seeing a job well done. It gives one a sence of pride What unique skills do you have? Very hands on operator. I have the ability to work with anyone and to be multy tasking at all times. I have learnt over the years that working hard is the key to success. I have always been keen to try new things in different enviroments and apply what I have learnt over the years. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? A job must give you job satisefaction, the more you put into it the more you get out of it. I think it must be very difficult to find your dream job. I think that would be for dreamers. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The chance to meet people and to achieve better goals. The catering industry is so vast there are so many interesting aspects. I enjoy the pressure of a given situation and being able to see it through. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? I cannot think of any, I enjoy all aspects of it or I would not do it. I guess sometimes in the restaurant trade when the bussiness is quiet one can get a bit frustrated.
