I am presently pursuing my masters in adult education sop that I can also lecture at a college. What nationality are you? I am a Jamaican, working in the Turks and Caicos Islands What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Anguilla, I want to visit another country to experience a new culture and share my experiences and area of expertise with students. What countries have you worked in? I have worked in Jamaica and the Turks and Caicos Islands. What countries do you have a visa to work in? I have a U.S. visa as well as a Turks and Caicos work permit and visa. What field do you currently work in? I am a guidance counsellor and have been working as a counsellor within the schools for 11 years. What fields have you worked in before? I worked as a Religious Education teacher within a junior high school. What qualifications do you hold? I hasve a bachelors in Guidfance and Counselling, as well as I am now pursuing my masters inadult education and training to be completed in April, 2011. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I think formal education is more important as it is the foundation for any employment within the society. The formal education gives individuals a chance to become qualified for careers. Describe the benefits of working with others When we are working with others we are able to relate to the different cultures and ideas. A person would learn from experiences that others have to share. Another point is learning to deal with challenges, sometimes misunderstanding can cause disharmony but when we learn to compromise, we can move ahead into stronger relationships with each other. Describe the benefits of working alone The individual will have more time to plan for activities within the organization. What was your worst working experience? My worst working experience was when I had a student who hate me because he was abused by his mother. However, in building a good rapport with him, I was able to build trust for him to confide in me. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? I have learnt to be patient, compromise and appreciate each person with his or her strength and weaknesses as no one is perfect. What unique skills do you have? My skills include cooking, doing embroidery and crochet, dancing, writing poems and stories. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job is to become an Occupational Psychologist. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? I speak with students about problems during counselling. I teach preventative measures such as teenage pregnancy or drug abuse to help prevent students from making wrong choices. I have work shop/ seminar with parents where we focus on parenting skills each year. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? All areas in my job is interesting. How do I deal with challenges that may arise within the classroom? I first talk with the student, then with intervention, call parents and inform the principal of issues I will address with the parents. How can potential employers contact you?
