EmploymentWhat type of job are you looking for? I am looking for a cooking position in Antarctica. What nationality are you? I am American, my father was born in the U.S. and my mother is from Peru. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? I speak English and Spanish. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? I am looking to work in Antarctica. When I went to cooking school, a chef instructor of mine told the class she worked there and since then I've always wanted to do it. What countries have you worked in? In the United States. What countries do you have a visa to work in? The United States. What field do you currently work in? In the culinary industry. What fields have you worked in before? I have worked in many areas of the hospitality industry. What qualifications do you hold? I have a degree from a culinary arts school. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? They go hand in hand. I learned the fundamentals in school but gained experience in the field. It is easier to get one once you have the other. Describe the benefits of working with others A task can get done more efficiently when working with others especially if everyone works as a team. Describe the benefits of working alone When working alone, your only limits are that of your own. It is important to know your limits so you can always try to exceed them. What was your worst working experience? My first day in a kitchen, two guys got in a fight and one stabbed the other in the belly with a french knife. After the police came and they both got taken away, the chef screamed "everyone back to work!" What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? All good things come to those who wait, and it helps to try real hard to get it too. What unique skills do you have? I am very good at solving puzzles and thinking outside the box. I have competed in chess at the tournament level and was the captain of the chess club at my school. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job would be to work in research and development in a kitchen. To have carte blanche and trade in my chef coat for a lab coat so to speak. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? It would be the many ways to get the same job done. To feed two people an 8 course meal or feed 800 people in half an hour. The goal is the same to get people to eat. What are the least interesting aspects of your field?
