VIP Protection / Policing / Security

What type of job are you looking for?

I am looking for the type of job I have done for the last 17 years, which is Vip Protection, Crime prevention, Comunity Policing, Security (Cash in transit) or a Military Service job.

What nationality are you?

I am an European South-African.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

I speak, read and write English well. My first language though is Afrikaans.

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

I would be comfortable working in any place in the Australasia group. Australia is attractive because we know some people that are already based there, also the geographics is very similar to South-Africa. Nieu-Zealand is attractive because we have family and a lot of friends there.

What countries have you worked in?

I have only worked in my country of birth: South-Africa.

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

None, but I have started a process for pr in Nieu-Zealand.

What field do you currently work in?

I am an Inspector in the South-African Police Service.

What fields have you worked in before?

I started my career by completing one year compulsory military service as a gunner. I have 8 years experience in VIP Protection, having been assigned to the safeguard the South-African President and other ministers in the cabinet. I also have 8 years experience in crime prevention, tracking and tracng of wanted persons and comunity policing all to the level of relief commander. I have also had an 2nd job where I did backup for cash in transit.

What qualifications do you hold?

I have matric as well as full Police Acadamy Training. I have also completed the following cources: Basic Protection Course, T.O.S.K (Tactical Surviving and Crowd Control), SWAT, SWAT (Advanced), Fire Arm Competency, Diversity Course, Crime Scene Management, Human Rights Course, Domestic Violence, Tracker (Vehicle tracking), Crime Analysis System, Drug Investigation Workshop.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

This would depend entirely on the individual using the education or skills. I have come accross situations where graduates could not apply what they have learned to the job / situation, and had to be lead by people having only skills and no formal education. For the same matter I have also seen where new graduated personell could step in an add immediate value to the situation.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Have you ever heard the clichè a chain is as strong as it's weakest link? well it's true. The benefit of a chain of course is that there are other links to support the weakness of one link. Therefore when one work in a group one can support each other.

Describe the benefits of working alone

Working alone, one always know the exact pace and status of a project and thus making it easier to manage changes due to external interferance.

What was your worst working experience?

My best friend and colleague was shot and killed next to me.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

That human life is precious and every person deserve the best opportunity you can give them.

What unique skills do you have?

I have excellent human relations, and have the capability of evaluating people and determining their character traits very quickly and easily. I also have excellent leadership skills.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

Policing is my dream job. I love working with people and animals and being able to help. I also love the changing environment and being outdoors.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

People. It is amasing to see how diverse people can be in different situations, and being able to apply oneself to the best of the situation.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

Paperwork. It is time consuming, but it has to be done.

Do you think you are good at your job?

Yes. I have received numerous certificates and awards for "Policeman of the year", "Most arrests", "Best officer of the month" etc. I have a certificate for almost each month of the year. I have also received numerous commendations from both high ranking officers and civilians.
