Early Childhood Education/Kindrgarden

What type of job are you looking for?

I am looking for a teaching job working with young children. I have been working in the Early Childhood Education field for 12 years. Since brain development is so important for children at a young age, I feel it is very important to expose children to many positive experience that are also educational. Children are hungary for knowledge and I think it is very important to feed this hungar and support the child in their adventure to learn.

What nationality are you?

I am an American, mother of two.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

English

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

Bahamas, because when I went on vacation on one of the out islands I feel in love with the people and the community. The children had wonderful manners and I loved their curiosity. They truley valued their education and were grateful, and enjoyed learning. the particular island I went to did not have any sort of preschool or kindergarden and since I believe these are very important ages for learning I really wanted to make a difference by helping prepare them for school.

What countries have you worked in?

I have only worked in the United States

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

I do not have a work visa but can aquire one easily.

What field do you currently work in?

I current own a daycare for infants thru preschool ages. I am also a student, working on finishing my BA in Human Development and Family studies. I have a AS degree in Early Childhood Education.

What fields have you worked in before?

I orginally came from a remote farming community where I helped work the farm. I also worked for the police department, dispatching police officers, firedepartments, and EMT units. I have had to wait tables and help with organizing weddings.

What qualifications do you hold?

I am director qualified and hold a degree in Early Childhood Education. I am still working on finishing a BA Degree in Human Develpment and Family Studies.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

I think formal education is more important. If one can read and write they have the ability to learn new skills of any kind. They have the ability to read books and the freedom to change their minds on their interests and learn as many skills as they want. Just by giving a child the education you give them the ability and the confidence to change, and improve their skills themselves.

Describe the benefits of working with others

I feel that working with others helps a person to grow. Both emotionally, and spiritually. Working with others helps you to learn and respect others and their culture and beliefs.

Describe the benefits of working alone

When working alone, a person knows what is expected of them. However even as a teacher the children teach me something everyday.

What was your worst working experience?

My worst working experience had nothing to do with the job itself. I was working two jobs and attending school. I had a three month old baby and hardly got to see her. It really broke my heart. But I had to make the sacrifice to keep food on the table and a roof over our head. I knew it wouldn't be forever but I had to finish school in order to better myself and be able to have a normal life and schedule.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

I have learned that consistancy is very important to children. They like it and need it. With todays times many families don't or can't have much consistancy. Working with the families are very rewarding and helping families to learn how to be consistant is alot of fun. I think open communication is a lesson everyone can benifit from.

What unique skills do you have?

I love children and people in general. I love to learn and to teach. I am always up for an adventure or challenge. I also enjoy playing the guitar and singing.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

My dream job would be teaching children in an area that I felt like I was helping the community and making a difference in a childs experience to learn.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

The most intersting part of my job is the relationships and bonds that I make with the families and the children. I value the things that they teach me. I also think it is interesting to teach the children new things and watch how they react and the fun questions they ask. They are so curious.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

The least interesting part of my job, I would have to say is when a child has to leave. If the family is relocating and I have become attached it is difficult to say good-bye. However I stay in close contact with all previous children and families.

What is my faith?

I am Christian and grew up Methodist. I would like to think that I have a good relationship with God and Jesus. I feel that I was put here to help children learn, and give them the ability to prosper.
