TEACHING BIOCHEMISTRY IN SCHOOLS OF AGRICULTUREWhat type of job are you looking for? I like teaching subjects related to agricultural biochemistry and chemistry of herbicides and allelopathy.I have long experience teaching biochem to agriculture students ( 1981 - 2005 ). What nationality are you? Libyan What languages do you speak (and at what level)? Arabic ( excellent )and English ( very good ) What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Bahrain, Oman, Qatar.I like the weather for one thing and for a second, my 17 yrs old son has good relation with soccer committee of Al majles of Qatar. What countries have you worked in? Only my home , Libya What field do you currently work in? Supervising research on allelopathy and teaching a graduate course in plant biochemistry What fields have you worked in before? teaching general biochemistry and weed control courses for undergraduate students and chemistry of herbicides and plant biochemistry as graduate courses. What qualifications do you hold? PhD in chemical weed control and MsC in biochemistry I am a Professor at the University of Al Fateh in Tripoli ,Libya Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Skills: for it enhances students to compete and feel free to pick up a great deal of science in the fields related to agricultural chemistry. Describe the benefits of working with others Exchange opinions, get satisfaction by presenting your feeling about certain issues. A task should be carried out in a coordinating integration, and started cooperatively with good consistency and harmony. The outcome will be successful with high potential, and a great deal of work planned with others will be achieved. Describe the benefits of working alone You may want to communicate with people by working alone. This may sound irrational, but writing a book, for instance, puts you in a situation to work alone; and you get all the satisfaction and benefits you are looking for.You feel happy, when you raise a cup proudly after winning a competition of some athletic games. All benefits from working alone creates self confidence and encourages you to become an important member of the society.Working alone is not so bad, because it stimulates your motives and driving force to integrate and dissolve your potential to work with others. What was your worst working experience? Some students do not have good background in chemistry, so I had to review some parts related to my course of biochemistry or herbicides. This holds me back and may not be able to finish the course contents at the specified schedule. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Understanding between people of the same or different nationalities is the most important thing in life. Understanding in the class room between students and their instructor will create very deep sentimental values, which will be reflected on the students career and consequently in their lives. They proceed in their careers by communicating, with the society on high levels of understanding. Life will go on with a peaceful harmony. What unique skills do you have? I found out that the students liked my approaches when talking biochemistry. I use very simple concepts when getting into biochemical pathways in metabolism. I motivate the students by relating complicated structures of biomolecules to something related to their activities and their habits. The unique skill I have is my enthusiasm when explaining topics in biochemistry during lectures. I know when the student is not following me " spaced out" ; I draw his attention swiftly. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? I have been teaching and tutoring chemistry and biochemistry and related sciences for more than forty years. Therefore, I would say teaching is always my "dream job" What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Understand how plants are growing and producing good crops.Increase agriculture production by utilizing the science of biochemistry of herbicides and the technology of using natural plant products as a substitute for man - made pesticides. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? I strongly believe that agriculture development can not go on without understanding the biochemistry behind all the changes that are associated with growing plants and livestock.Genetic engineering, for instance, is knocking down breeding, for it cuts the time required to produce or introduce a new variety. Genetic engineering is biochemistry. If you know biochemistry, you should be able to know the sequence of nucleotides of DNA and RNA.Both are the cores of the central dogma of life, and this is what genetic engineering is all about. On the other hand, pesticides are molecules, which are sprayed to control pests. We may eat a good apple or drink cold milk with a fresh donut, but this food might be contaminated with pesticides. We should know the chemistry of pesticides to be assure that we can analyze their residue in all kinds of commodities Why I prefer teaching than doing research? Teaching creates high potential in a large number of students to graduate and become able to pursue their careers by conducting research. Moreover, good instructor, through his teaching ability, will enhance the activities of intellectual students to become good researchers and genius scientists. How can potential employers contact you?
