Seeking Employment as a Sales/Design Consultant

What type of job are you looking for?

A position as a Sales or Design Consultant at a home furnishing company.

What nationality are you?

Barbadian.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

English only (experienced).

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

Belize but any location within the Americas would be great. I would like to expand my career and life experiences and gain knowledge of another culture by being there in the mix of it all.

What countries have you worked in?

Only in my home country of Barbados; this is my main reason for wanting to spread my wings and go elsewhere.

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

None.

What field do you currently work in?

Kitchen design for the past four years. I am currently studying to be an Interior Decorator to have a wider range of knowledge in the design industry.

What fields have you worked in before?

The other field I've worked in has been architectural drafting. I have used a number of CAD based software but am most experienced in AutoCad and am currently using the 2009 version.

What qualifications do you hold?

9/2004 - Barbados Institute of Management & Productivity, Bridgetown, Barbados • Fundamentals of Marketing Diploma

7/1998 - The Barbados Community College, Bridgetown, Barbados • Certification: Fashion Design Certificate

7/1997 - Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic, Bridgetown, Barbados • Certification: Architectural Drafting Diploma

9/1995 - The Barbados Community College, Bridgetown, Barbados • Certification: City and Guilds Ordinary Technician Diploma In Building And Civil Engineering

6/1993 - The St. Michael School, Bridgetown, Barbados • High School or equivalent (Caribbean Examinations Council Certificate)

GRADE 2: Mathematics, English, Principles of Business, Art and Technical Drawing GRADE 3: Chemistry, Physics and Spanish

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

I believe skills and experience is more valuable as I've found when looking for a job that even though you may have the degree, the employer still requires you to have years of experience to qualify even for an interview. Some employers even prefer the experience over the degree as they would believe you (with experience)can deal with almost any thing thrown at you.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Dependent on each persons job description the work can be shared as equally as possible. Also there are opportunities to learn from one another and assist each other to progress efficiently in our respective roles.

Describe the benefits of working alone

In working alone there maybe less distractions and more concentration on the job at hand.

What was your worst working experience?

Working at a car dealership as a Service Assistant. There was not much to do and I felt worthless.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

To be cautious, aware and take your time as best as possible with the time constraints of the job.

What unique skills do you have?

I learn any CAD based software quickly. I also adapt to any new work environment even if it is not what I exactly want to do at the time. I always give my best.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

My 'dream job' would be where I feel happy to go to work every day even though the job will have its stresses. I would also enjoy having a great management and work structure to deal with.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

Dealing with the client and being able to provide them with excellent service and quality products.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

Not noticing an issue before it becomes an issue. This is when a lot of changes are made by a client or there is a lot of back and forth about something that then becomes overlooked before an order and then the order is made and you miss it.

Why do you think you should be considered for a position in your field?

I give my best to the client under all and any circumstance that may be thrown at me on the job. I am honest at all times with the client and my boss about any issue that may occur, no matter how bad it may be but I do try to keep those to a minimum (like one or two a year). I am ambitious and willing to work hard to move forward/up and am willing to engage in any job training opportunities.

How can potential employers contact you?

I can be contacted by telephone at 1-246-424-2425 or via email at xai2@hotmail.com.
