Education Specialist certification in Administration and Supervision, Specific Learning Disabilities, Emotional-Behavioral Disorders, and Mental Retardation
Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?
Formal education. However, neither is as valuable alone as both are together. Certain skills are inate and are enhanced thru formal education.
Describe the benefits of working with others
Working with others allows us to bounce ideas off each other, allowing development and enhancement of them, and allows one to see that there is more than one way to view ideas or situations.
Describe the benefits of working alone
Working alone for short periods of time allows one to formulate and consider new ideas, or rethink old ones without distractions.
What was your worst working experience?
Working at an alternative school for students who had been thrown out of regular school because of rules infractions and criminal acts.
What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?
That I don't have all the answers and there is always something new to learn; to allow myself time to think through things if I don't have a ready answer; that I don't have to have all the answers.
What unique skills do you have?
I like people and get on well with them. I'm accepting of others and have the ability to "connect" with young people in such a way as to encourage them to confide in me and allow me to counsel with them.
What would you consider as your 'dream job'?
Teaching without reams of paperwork. Teaching children who want to learn.
What job would you never do?
Chief executioner.
