Seeking Bermuda Summer Job

What type of job are you looking for?

I am looking for various options to expand my experience of jobs.

What nationality are you?

I am a born Bermudian, and have been raised there until recent years where I have left the island for schooling.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

English is my native language. Spanish at a beginners-intermediate level.

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

Bermuda. I am currently an overseas student in Canada, and will be home for the summer. I would like to broaden my resume while there.

What countries have you worked in?

I have only been formally employed in Bermuda.

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

I am able to work in Canada if I wish, but with the time permitted to me while here I have only have enough to focus on my schooling.

What field do you currently work in?

I am currently a Grade 11 highschool student. IB diploma.

What fields have you worked in before?

I have volunteered as a candy striper. I have also had experience caring for younger children ranging in age from 5 months - 6 years. This required sole respondsiblity for up to 9 or 10 hours for example 7a.m - 5 pm. or in some situations it required me to care for a child from 10p.m until early morning as a temporary nanny. I have formally been employed in a clothing retail store in Hamilton City, Bermuda. I have also assisted voluntarely in a school office, Bermuda Institute; with this I had the requirement to either help a teacher with certain students and thier work or organize charts, data, papers and envelopes within the office. I also ran errands throughout that time.

What qualifications do you hold?

As a student I have all requirements fulfilled up until my current standing as a Grade 11 IB Diploma candidate.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

Formal education is extremely important, but without skill it is at times hardly useful. With comparing the two I believe skill is the most valuable, my reasons for this is because I believe a person with highly developed skill and poor education can perform extremly well or just as well compared with a person with developed education with no skill at all. This can be easily seen in the story of Dr. Vivien Thomas, whereas in poverty he did not develop an education, but learned to develop the skill to such an extent that he understood and was educated through experience.

Describe the benefits of working with others

When you work with others you're generating a broader profile for person to person skills. The interactment with other lifestyles also provides the opportunity to make your own more colourful. You are also able to better develop a new perspective of a certain job by learning the ideas, views, and ways of working of others, this helps you to develop a better vision of your own.

Describe the benefits of working alone

When working alone you can easily find and set a pace or routine to your work so that wjat you're doing becomes more concentrated and precise, this is also seen as an opportunity to improve on personal weaknesses and continue to develop strengths, working with each as needed.

What was your worst working experience?

I believe my worst working experience was not being properly instructed or told what I was to do, before I was expected to perform it; but with this I eventually was able to learn, which also helps in self-confidence.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

Throughout school, and throughout working experience I have learned that it is important to teach myself all that I can, so that I can be the best that I can in whatever job required.

What unique skills do you have?

I am literate and an active reader. I am self-motivated. I am good at crafts and painting.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

At this moment I am looking to expand and explore, I plan to eventually try to obtain a job working with animals, in veterinary training or either human or animal wellness while I am in school and hopefully have had the experience of more fields of intrest.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

As this applys to me, relating it to school, my most intersting subjects include: Biology IB Honours Higher, English IB Honours Higher, and Theory of Knowledge.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

As this applys to me, again I will relate it to schooling. My least interesting subject is math Pre-Calculus.

I am a young student looking for a job within a time that there are not many jobs able to hire: Why Should I Be Hired?

I should be hired because I am able. I am at a maturity that I can work, and I am capable to be of good use to any employer. I am accountable and carry a good attitude. Bermuda puts focus on providing a positive future for it's youth. As a Bermudian Youth I'm interested in providing a positive future for myself, this includes getting as much experience in the workforce as possible before finishing my education to become a full time employee wherever I may choose.

How can potential employers contact you?
