What type of job are you looking for?

healthcare, nursing in hospital setting or private

What nationality are you?

american

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

fluent english

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

bhutan; the people are in need of assistance in many areas of their lives and the medical field is very broad and I feel that I will be an asset to them in this field. I have worked on a medical surgical unit for 6 years. My son wanted to study there before I lost him at seventeen, and I think my work there will enable me to be part of something bigger than myself

What field do you currently work in?

nursing on a medical surgical floor as well as mental health dept

What fields have you worked in before?

computer science instructor

What qualifications do you hold?

completed rn nursing program and with excelsior collge. rn clinicals at tanner medical center, carrollton ga; degreed in computer science and computer programing. six years on the med-surg floor; clincals and six years mental health facility

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

formal education sets the ground work and provides mass amounts of information that is ussually benificial but is set up under perfect conditions with proper amt of staffing, all the equipment needed is in reach and works properly and one medical dx. I prefer skills over books b/c experience is the best teacher and it is real life and prepares the person to anticipate complications and look at situation with a broader view.

Describe the benefits of working with others

working with others allows you to observe and learn new things as well as different and better ways of doing them. it also teaches you how to be a team player and work together in order to provide the optimum outcome.

Describe the benefits of working alone

working alone gives you the opportunity to provide one on one care and became closer to the people you are working with and by doing so you are more able to have a more personal and positive effect.

What was your worst working experience?

on a personal level watching my sister die at the age of 47 with a staph infection that mutated and became systemic. There was nothing that could be done, she died after 10 days of her dx. The whole "nothing can be done" is difficult to accept with technology being what it is no matter who the pt. is.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

knowing that life and death is not like what you see on tv or read in books. realizing that life and death is a very personal and individual thing. no two people are the same in either situation.

What unique skills do you have?

compassion, understanding and always willing to learn and know more about as many things that present themselves to me. i have always been told, "people open up to you." i am a very good listener.I am very well read on many cultures and religions. i am not judgemental.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

working in Bhutan or on a native american reservation here. my mother was native american and i have seen first hand the living conditions they are subjected to and the lack of education, jobs and medical care.It isn't that different for the people of Bhutan. my dream job will allow me to go to bed at night and feel like and know i made a differance and the following day will bring the same. i am not looking for monitary gain but maybe something a bit more spiritual. peace

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

in the field of nursing i would have to say "ther is more that one way to skin a chicken." Two pts could have the same dx put you tx with them will not be the same. being exposed to anything from the swine flu to flesh eating dieases. the care given out weighs most other tx. it is the nurse that are with the pt daily and will know what is normal for one is not for another. being ther when a student nurse puts down "the book" and decides to treatthe s/s. there is always something new to learn.

Wjat are the least interesting aspects of your field?

meetings the entail the cut backs we will be facing in order to put a grand piano in the lobby and hasve a pianist play. equipment failure, and constantly being reminded all of our jobs are on the line if we don't make the cut backs. once the patients and family complain about the cut backs we are then being told if the Customers" not patients are satisfied we are to fix it. catch twenty-two.

Please replace this with a question of your own

what are the living conditions for the medical staff comming in and would we be able to interact with the people? are there clinics in the villages or hospitals near by?
