Bar/Retail/Teaching/Travel Job OpportunitesWhat type of job are you looking for? I have had four years experience in the travel industry working for various tour companies in Sydney. However, I also have experience teaching English here in Salvador da Bahia. I am looking for either a job as a tour consultant, English teacher, bar tender or retail shop assistant. What nationality are you? I was born in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais and was brought up in Australia. So I have two passports: Brasilian and Australian. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? I am a native speaker of English as it is my first language and I speak Portuguese at a medium - advanced level. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? I am living in Salvador da Bahia, Brasil. Brasil has my heart as this is where my heritage is. I have family both here in Brasil and in Australia also. What countries have you worked in? Australia What countries do you have a visa to work in? As I have a passport I do not require a Visa to work here in Brasil. What field do you currently work in? I am currently a part-time English teacher here in Salvador. What fields have you worked in before? Retail (shop assistant) and a tour consutant What qualifications do you hold? I have two certificates in Retail and Wholesale Tour Operations and two certificates in teaching English as a second language Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I consider skills more valuable due to the fact that each new job will require to learn new things quickly and efficiently. This cannot easily be done without a certain level of skill. Describe the benefits of working with others As I am a sociable person I very much enjoy workind with others. The interaction with colleagues makes the day more enjoyable and helps to keep me motivated. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone can mean that you are free of distractions and can get work done in a more timely manner. What was your worst working experience? My worst experience would have been when I was working for a Latin America tour operator in Sydney and our Antarctic vessel sunk. I had to deal with many enquiries from friends and relatives of the passengers on board. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? The customer is always right. No matter how obnoxious/irate/rude thay are, you must find a way to ease the situation and maintain a high level of professionalism. What unique skills do you have? The ability to talk to new people and make them feel comfortable and confident that I can provide the highest level of customer service due to my great communication skills. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job would involve anything centred around Latin America where I can talk to people on a daily basis. Perhaps selling a certain product, or providing customer service in an informational booth. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? I find that the travel industry opens up a whole new world for like-minded people to discover the world. It broadens the perspecitve of the individual and educates them in the ways of other cultures. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? The least interesting aspects would be the administrative work involved. What kind of management would I like to work for? It would be lovely to work for people with a high level of prefessionalism but also great personality traits such as warm, friendly, enthusiastic and good team players.
