Italian, English, French and Spanish What country or area are you looking to work in and why? At the moment I am working in Afghanistan with the International Committee of the Red Cross since more than one year. I wish to challenge me in something totally different in a context like the caribbean islands and to avoid war zone What countries have you worked in? Italy, Ivory Coast, Peru, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Belgium, USA, India What countries do you have a visa to work in? At the moment Pakistan and Afghanistan What field do you currently work in? I am working for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Afghanistan as clinical doctor and public health officer in supporting the Ministry of Public Health in its health reform What fields have you worked in before? In Italy for 5 years as GP and 1 year as epidemiologist/public health officer for the Piedmont Region, for 2 years in South America (Amazon) as a GP and researcher on malaria for the Institute of Tropical Medicine of Antwerp, for 1 year in Ivory Coast with the project "STOP SIDA (STOP AIDS)", 6 months as a researcher in San Diego (USA), several months in India (Calcutta), Sarajevo, Kosovo in the framework of humanitarian interventions. 2 years as consultant (data analysis) for Doctors Without Borders Italy regarding the projects in Italy, Haiti and Brazil What qualifications do you hold? Italian Medical degree, specialization in Hygiene and Public Health; Belgian diplome in tropical medicine and Master in infectious disease control. Several important courses in Public Health, Health prevention and Clinic Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? according to my personality and experience I consider more important the skills you could develop from the fields but on the other hand you absolutely need to have some basic education. Anyway I have had two kind of experiences: tough experiences in developing countries (many at war) and in Italy as a government officer and GP and I know these different contexts needs totally different professional profile. Describe the benefits of working with others sharing the emotions and the responsability. building a time that could cooperate and stay together also after hours Describe the benefits of working alone The capacity to give all yourself to a task. anyway, also as a doctor I never work alone. I have alway a patient What was your worst working experience? Ivory Coast, when in the middle of the therapy for HIV patients the flow of treatment from the Western Countries have been interrupted. hundreds of people were left without treatment and in despair. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? be patient What unique skills do you have? emphaty and passion balanced with my professional skills What would you consider as your 'dream job'? I have already accomplished many "dream jobs". Now I wish to slow my pace and finding more time for myself. unfortunately, on the other hand, I still love challenges What are the most interesting aspects of your field? working with people and their real needs What are the least interesting aspects of your field? I have a lot interference as a public health officer from politics and sometime I have to focus my attention on problems that are not really problems or needs.
