Registered NurseWhat type of job are you looking for? I have extensive senior administration experience in nursing and would like to work in that capacity. I am also looking for a position in nursing for med-surg, long term care, chronic care and home care. What nationality are you? Canadian What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English. Perfect. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Tortola or other BVI islands. After visiting these islands I feel this is the place I want to live. What countries have you worked in? Only Canada. What countries do you have a visa to work in? None at this time. What field do you currently work in? Long term care charge nurse. What fields have you worked in before? Endoscopy, correctional centre, home care, director of nursing for 205 bed LTC facility, charge nurse. What qualifications do you hold? Registered Nurse, Point Click care literate (computer program for documentation), RAI- MDS (Resident Assessment Instrument) trained, OAHNSS (not for profit) Administraters certification, McMaster University Leadership/Management Certificate. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Both. If you have formal education you are book smart and coupled with skills is a perfect match. You can't just be skill smart. Describe the benefits of working with others Working in collaboration with others brings more information/ideas to the table. I think small groups/teams work well. Information sharing brings more creativity. Describe the benefits of working alone Sometimes working independantly is a benefit because you can stay focused on a goal or task and get it done. Sometimes if there are too many people, decisions can't be made. If working alone you have to have the ability to reach out when required and know when to do that. What was your worst working experience? I had to fire an employee who had become a friend because she wasn't doing her job. She sued the company and claimed she was wrongfully dismissed. It was a nightmare. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Keep your work friends just that, work friends. What unique skills do you have? I can multi-task better than anyone I know. I think fast on my feet and I have the uncanny ability to always look calm, even when underneath I'm stressed. I also have the unique skill to communicate well at all levels (socio-economically and educationally). What would you consider as your 'dream job'? To work as the Director of Nursing in a hospital or LTC facility or to work in health care goverment policy compliance and enforcement. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Right now I am bed side nursing and making connections with patients to make then better pleases me. I am also glad to be using my clinical skills again. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Sometimes I find the way we document for funding is so labour intensive it takes away from the time I spend with patients, which is stressed at the best of times. How would your boss describe you? She would say that she thinks I'm so calm she doesen't know how I do it. She would say I am smart and work like a dog with a bone. She would say she is confident in giving me tasks because I get them done, without complaining. She would say I am the type of person who needs a challenge. How can potential employers contact you?
