i dont know HOW to leave this job! someone PLEASE tell me what to do?

Thank author of this post/commentso i am originally from Connecticut but i am going to school in california. i just finished my first year and i am home for the summer. i was looking for a job for about half a month and found nothing. i finally found a job at this little boutique BUT i had to lie to get the job because they were only looking for longterm people and obviously i am not longterm since i go to school in cali. i told them that i go to school nearby and they hired me. it is now nearing the time when i have to go back to school and i don't know what to tell them! i LOVE the job and the girls are so nice we have become friends. i just cant tell them the truth. i dont want them to know i lied. and i will probably keep shopping there after i leave and dont want it to be awkward when i see them. what do i tell my boss when i give my two weeks notice? i just worked with her today and she was asking me all this stuff and i made it seem like i had no idea that i was going to leave and i was planning to stay. PLEASE HELP!!! what do i do????? okay and you people need to relax. it's not like i am 25 and lied to get a big job or something. i am sure they will have no problem finding someone to take my place. i just feel bad. do you think saying i got an internship would be better then saying i just all of a sudden am going to school in cali?

"Sooner than later"

Give them notice. Here is an easy non lie solution to your lie. Do you have a scholarship to go to that school in cali? Tell them you got a scholarship to a school in cali and you really want to take it. Tell them you love the job and dont want to lose it. But this is a school you really want to attend.

If not... just tell them you really want to do this and you dont want to leave. Tell them you can stay until "x" date and they can start looking for someone else. The most important thing is they dont end up short handed cuz you bailed. Tell them if they find someone before you have to leave they can just jump right into your spot. Just dont drag it out. The company isnt gonna shut down if you just leave without notice but the employees may have a very stressful time making up for the missing person and end up hiring someone else that isnt the best fit just to fill the gap.

Good Luck... Im sure most of us have done the same thing. You are not going to hell.

Andy
