Formal education or skills and why? I would consider skills to be more valuable than formal education. Whilst formal education and qualification provides you with the field specific knowledge, it is the practical skills that accompany said knowledge that determines the capability of an individual. Knowledge can be learned through experience, however skills are required in order to tackle each experience. Skills are more relevant and useful as they are refined with a particular use in mind. Describe the benefits of working with others Working with others provides you with a pool of knowledge, opinion and experience which can only serve to improve your own performance and delivery. Moreover, working as part of a team fosters an attitude with which you can look beyond your own personal performance and work to facilitate and improve the performance of an entire team. It encourages you to take responibility for something bigger than yourself, which I believe is an important character trait. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone can ecourage you to really streamline your focus. Without the assistance of others, the onus is on the individual to maintain high standards and meet deadlines and expectations. Working alone highlights a persons drive and dedication What was your worst working experience? My worst working experience was working in a team where I felt I wasnt valued. It is extremely important, in my belief, that in order for a team to succeed as whole, all of its respective contributors must feel that they have an imput and that their perspective is heard. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? The most important lesson I have learned throughout my life is the ability to accept criticism and the opinion of others and use them as a positive to improve your own performance and delivery for the benefit of those you serve. No one person has a monopoly on knowledge and experience. We each interpret things in different ways and should look to utilise the benefit of differing approaches, techniques, knowledge and experience so that we can all be better informed . What unique skills do you have? I have a sporting background, which leads me to be a very active, motivated and competitive person. Whilst I strive to do my best in whatever I do, I do not believe in trying to be the best at the expense of others. As a member and leader of numerous sporting teams, I have come to recognise that the supporting cast are just as important, if not more so than the leader. One cannot suceed without the other and each member of the team is accountable to the others. This attitude, in my opinion enables me to work within and lead successful teams in all areas of life whether it be professional, recreational or personal. Whilst this 'skill' may not seem particularly profound, and cannot really be measured or recorded, I believe it to be an extremely important 'skill' which will enable me to succeed in this job. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job would be as a teacher or mentor in a developing environment, working to help those who may be at risk or have been given less opportunities in life than myself. I would love to set up and run my own orphanage or independent school What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Working in the field of tutoring others, in particular the young, is particularly intersting because you consistently come accross people who challenge you. Even with the benefit of education and qualification, a child can pose the most challenging questions of all as they possess a very unique and unadultered view of the world. The task of answering these questions and making these answers accesible to the young is enlightening and you find yourself learning something new everyday. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? The least interesting aspect of my field is bureacracy when it comes to meeting generic targets which should, in actual fact be tailored to individual need and circumstances. What drives you to work in the field you are applying for? There is something immeasurably inspirational in witnessing the moment when a person realises that they possess the knowledge to succed. To be a part of that process is extremely humbling and rewarding and it is for that reason that I wish to work in the teaching field.
