Re: WorkWhat type of job are you looking for? I recently did the Security Operations Cert II in the hope to get work at the Detention Centre on Christmas Island, I am after a change in my life and I feel I can do the job well. What nationality are you? Originally born in Scotland, but my father and sisters are Australian so I am an Australian citizen. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? Learned German and French at school but been so long since then so to be honest only English now. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? I want a career, I have been labouring for too long, I really want to leave the city and live somewhere quiet, so to be honest I am willing to move anywhere if the right job come up. What countries have you worked in? Just Scotland & Australia. What countries do you have a visa to work in? Being from the UK & being an Australian citizen either of these two. What field do you currently work in? Labouring, Forklift driving. What fields have you worked in before? Labouring, Demolition, Forklift, NIghtclubs, I used to do a lot of Seasonal work because I enjoy the quiet and Hostel Managerment. What qualifications do you hold? Unfotunately I left school early to chase money, so only thing worth noting would be, Cert II Security Opeations, Cert II Transport & Logistics, Warehousing & Storeroom, Forklift Ticket, OHS White Card, & First Aid. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I value skills as more important, I did well at school don't get me wrong but school does not prepare you for work in life, I learn more being on the job rather than what I would sitting at a desk all day, for myself I pick up things quickly and believe I can do any job when I am shown one of my personal skills. Describe the benefits of working with others It's good to work with other for various reasons such as learning from others, learning to work with other people, meeting new people as in it can be good for self esteem. Describe the benefits of working alone The sole benefit to me is you seem to get a lot more done if your jobs desires that, your able to concentrate on your work more having no side attractions. What was your worst working experience? Worst working experience was when I was working for an unnamed business, worked my socks off, even filled in for the manager when two of the walked out, I was left running the yard myself, booking ships, forklifting, labouring etc, my boss was not a nice man, it was a Friday and a holiday on the following Monday, so as usual I had to remind him off this, I called and told him to remember I wouldn't be at work on Monday due to the public holiday and remember to have my pay in the bank Tuesday including Monday's pay, everything was cool, come Monday afternoon I recieved an EMAIL saying I would be payed but I am laying you off, so basically I shed blood and tears for that guy went way over what my work was to help him and I was basically sacked for asking for my holiday pay. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Hard to answer this, I try my hardest at every job I do, I try to think good about everyone I work with including my boss and regardless of how many times I have been let down, I still keep my chin up, so I guess to answer the question, I don't let bad experiences get me down. What unique skills do you have? I learn very quickly (see below answer), I believe I can do any job if I am given the chance, I am outgoing and enjoy working with people, I have a heart and feel compassion. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job and to answer unique skills, I once filled in one night for a friend at a Youth Hostel / Backpackers, the next day I was offered the Night Manager job, without knowing anything about my job I learned it all very quickly, computer work, people skills, within a few months I was filling in for the Day Manager, the hostel was for young Europeans around the age of 18-28 who come to Perth to learn English, it was a hard job but one I loved, so my dream job would be if I could ever afford it would be to own a similar business, or even something similar for looking after unfortunate people who live on the street, a lot of people need help and I wish I could help them unfortunately I do not have the means to do so, I know what it's like to be down and out of luck and I would like to help others by owing some form of Youth Hostel or Backpackers. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Can't really answer this as I am labouring and the reason I want to have a career on Christmas Island is to have a career that is interesting & more self fulfilling. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? As a labourer most jobs are boring, same old same old. Your Ideal working situation? I would personally like fly in fly out work, living somewhere for upto 6-8 weeks at a time is no problem for me, even longer if needed, but you will agree we all need a week off after that to refresh yourself, I don't mind day, afternoon or night shift, I am willing to go anywhere and work at anytime, I want a career not a job.
