IT Project Manager

What type of job are you looking for?

My long experience in managing large IT infrastructure projects leads me to look for a new experience in countries outside Europe. I think that I can provide my experience for emerging countries who are affording new projects to increase their value. I'm a project manager and I'm looking for a job as a project manager :)

What nationality are you?

I am Italian. Italy is member of the European Community

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

I speak english fluently. I worked for multicountries companies in which the main language is english. I speak also spanish, I'm learning it and as I know many people in Latin America I have many occasions to speak and write in spanish

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

I'm looking a job in Colombia. It's an emerging country, I know people there and I think that it could be a good place to introduce my experience.

What countries have you worked in?

Many. In my joblife I worked mainly for two big companies spread all over the world. The Italian Fiat Group (one of the biggest automotive companies in Europe) has plants in every country and working on their IT infrastructures I traveled a lot. The other big company I worked for is IBM, whose name does not need further explanations

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

Being a European Community Member I can work in almost every country in the world

What field do you currently work in?

At the moment I'm working as a Project Manager in a big bank in Italy. I'm followinf projects related to techological infrastructures.

What fields have you worked in before?

I started my career as a programmer, in 1989. I did my experience in a time where IT was at its beginnings for medium/small companies. After years of training on the job, I had my first task as a project manager in 1998.

What qualifications do you hold?

I have achieved degrees at High school and University as well as qualification along my job life. I did many courses and seminaries about various arguments. I hold a bachelor degree in computer science and I attended courses from structural programming methodologies to DataBase management and programming; economics and project management as well.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

I think that formal education is really important. Beside the aknowlegment of a particular subject it gives a method. Skills are valuable as well but they must be achieved both with studies and experience. A strong formal education let the learnig step of skill easier, in my opinion.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Experience is got mainly learning from others. When I was a young worker, fresh of my studies, I needed guides, someone who could trasmit me the "secrets" of the job. This made me aware of the benefit to work in team. Only with the armony in the team great goals can be reached.

Describe the benefits of working alone

Difficul to describe it. It's up to the job one's doing. I think that there is not an absolute statement for it. Working alone has benefits only in thos jobs in which one can be a single actor; in team work there is no benefits in working alone. This means that isolation in a team due to the conceit "if I wont a good job I have to do it alone" is not good and scratched the team.

What was your worst working experience?

In every job there is something that goes wrong. Thinking of it I cannot say that I had terrible experiences in my working life. I was used to work under pressure early and my personality drive me to look for good also in difficult situations.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

There is always somethig to learn, both from the elders and the young ones. Never feel at the winning post: it's miles far away.

What unique skills do you have?

I have not unique skills. I don't pretend to have them.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

Sincerely. The only dream job for me is the possibility to live without working, or, in general, to do what I like without the need to work for food. Being it a utopy, for me, my dream job is the one who can help to grow: I mean, if my projects leads a company to grow, a country to get welfare or to give children new opportunities living in a modern country, well, that's my dream. I don't seek for personal fortune or richness.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

Technology is something that must make humanity to live better. That's the main interest aspect of my field. When I worked for automotive companies, I knew that the new infrastructures I was building were made to permit to have a better product, for a better life. The success of my projects influenced the result of my company; that success ment better economy for all the countries in which the products were produces and sold.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

Routine. Every job have routine aspects that make it boring, sometimes. But that's part of the game. Apart that, that is a general aspect, I can consider my field extremely interesting, in continuous evolution and there is always something to learn.

What do you think it will be tha main advantage for your career to work outside Europe?

This is a good question. I stated before that there is always something to learn. And that's true, but there is a particular aspect of it. In Europe and in general in western countries where the technology grows fast the rithm is fast as well. In my field there is also the needing to make competencies at disposal of someone else, in order to teach and to enrich. This is what I find a great advantage to work in less advanced countries; that is what I mean "outside Europe"
