English TeacherWhat type of job are you looking for? I am looking for employment teaching English in Colombia. I prefer the Barranquilla area or somewhere fairly close to Barranquilla. What nationality are you? United States citizen and native English speaker. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English is my native language with an extremely high level of knowledge both formal and colloquial. I can understand Spanish and am working on my pronunciation. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Colombia or a country close by. What countries have you worked in? United Stares but have traveled world wide. What countries do you have a visa to work in? USA but have valid passport What field do you currently work in? I work at a 2 year college. What fields have you worked in before? Teaching from kindergarten through adult including being a Headmaster of a small religious school for 8 years What qualifications do you hold? Masters degree in Teaching English to Speskers of Other Languages and Bachelor degree in History. I also have a certificate to teach adults from the State of Arizona and am Montessori trained. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? You need both. You need the skills to teach but also their is an art to teaching. A good formal education will help you have the research background to keep current. Describe the benefits of working with others When you work with others you help the world. When you teach and learn from others you change peoples lives for the better. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone gives you time to gain insight into the inner workings of the worls around you and the world at large. What was your worst working experience? I worked my way through school and dug water wells in the summer in Arizona where it is very hot. It built my character. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Always use patience and understand everybody is special. Respect is not just a word it is a universal law for enlightenment.You will learn when you do not judge and a sense of humor is highest gift a person can have. What unique skills do you have? The ability to teach and communicate the English language through using patience and optimitism as well as having an excellent background in English. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Living in South America directing or teaching English in a school and seeing children and adults learning. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? I think the constant challanges and the new research in the field of language acquisition. Living in a different culture and knowing we all have universal needs is necessary to be a good teacher. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Writing grades in a book or data base. What makes a great teacher? Teaching is an art and an evolution in the individual.
