Formal education or skills and why? Both are important because the formal theory can be applied in the learning and business contexts, whereas skills are developed over time in an experiential way on the job and in formal training and management developemnt programmes Describe the benefits of working with others . The sum of the parts is greater than the whole! Many hands make the workload lighter and more fun. The benefits of shared learning on the job and different viewpoints of working in a team are the rewards of being in a comapmy working environment Describe the benefits of working alone time to focus, reflect and think is invaluable in processing and organising information for special projects. What was your worst working experience? In Hong Kong when the team leader left me to work out how to communicate with non English speaking clients on the telephone. I had to design a questionnaire for customer feedback which I then had translated into mandarin. The process was long and arduous. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? To listen and try to understand others from different cultures before judging a situation What unique skills do you have? I speak 3 languages and can apply myself to any situation due to my excpereince of living and working overseas What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Being able to use my languages in my work as well as helping others to overcome learning blocks. Designing and leading my own classes to include social situations What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Delivering actual English classes and communication skills programmes in creative ways What are the least interesting aspects of your field? reading many articles and books to keep up to date. I would prefer to be hands on and teaching and training more than being stuck in an office Why do students lose interest in learning ? Generally they are not encouraged by schools and companies to think through the time and effort needed to learn a language. Thye are dismayed at the number of hours needed to progress in the learning process. It is my job to encourage, motivate and make sure the classes are interesting and varied.
