Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

I consider formal education more valuable because it makes it easier to acquire those skills. If you do have formal education you can easily learn more skills.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Working with others helps in that you share information, especially in situations of problem solving. You cannot claim to know everything at a workplace as there is need to learn from others. The aspect of being shy can be removed as any decision made can be taken as shared responsibility hence encourages openness and full participation. If you hold a senior position, it is imperative that you work with your juniors to be able to impart knowledge to them. If you happen to be involved in accidents at workplace,it becomes quicker for you to be attended to as they will be people closer to you.

Describe the benefits of working alone

Working alone can provide benefits in an environment where you want to put more concentration to your work with little disturbances. Working alone can give confidence to an idividual as he is pepared to take any responsibilities to any consequencies. Any successes to work done by an individual is credited to him alone.

What was your worst working experience?

It was during the Sulphuric acid plant start up from annual shutdown whiles l was still a Trainee Process Foreman. We lost the Waste Heat Boiler due tubes failure after the boiler ran dry. The instrumentation failed and the boiler water sight glasses were not visible. The accident could have been avoided had all the pre-start up check list done properly. The plant had been stopped for one month shutdown period and had to stop for another fifteen days to repair the boiler. To me as Trainee, it was a learning experience but to the organisation, it was lost productivity and revenue.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

Most of my working career, l have been employed as a Process Foreman. The nature of this job makes you the link between the top management and the employee at the bottom. This has given me the opportunity to be able to communicate with people of different levels and to be able to strike a balance in ensuring targets set are met and maintaing employee motivation.

What unique skills do you have?

I do have human skills as l feel l am able to communicate with people of different levels even the employee at the shopfloor. I do have that skill to influence someone to do something without forcing him. I also do have technical skills as most of the time, my job will be attending to plant breakdowns and troubleshooting.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

My dream job is to work as a Plant Manager for a Sulphuric acid plant as l have much to offer to any organization which employs me, as l have fourteen years working experience in that environment. I would also be of much help in training surbodinates.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

My field is a challenging environment due to uniqueness nature of Sulphuric acid plants. I consider myself a person who is continously learning everyday as new things will always crop up. The aspect that l operate in a chemical environment which could be quite challenging, I have to give attention to any detail.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

During the Sulphuric acid plant start-up from annual shutdown, the control of sulphur dioxide gas emmision is difficult as will be starting from cold and will end up polluting the environment. The sulphur dioxide gas emmission in higher levels are toxic and do have choking effect on human beings.

What is your ambition in your career ?

My ambition is to be able to create a safe working environment where accidents are minimised with no fatalities. I someone who is very eager to operate safe, guarding the environment for the future generation.
