TEFL certificate, BA English Studies (Hons). Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I think they are of equal value the former to instill academic discipline and knowledge and the latter to apply broaden and enhance a chosen area of expertise. Describe the benefits of working with others Shared problems can by solved with more than one mind to contribute ideas and larger areas of work can be covered. Also working as a successful team can be very emotionally satisfying. Describe the benefits of working alone Independance of action means you do not have to rely on others who may make mistakes or create delays in the work. It can also be easier to schedule things to suit your own personal requirements. What was your worst working experience? 2 years spent in the Libyan desert with no social life except those available at a military base populated mainly by men. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? That there is no real short cut to a successful project. What unique skills do you have? I feel that I am creative and use that within any line of endeavour. For example whilst working for the Employment Service I approached a local radio station who agreed to my presenting a series of broadcasts related to services available for the unemployed. I am also able to play and write music and this can be very communicative. I have been featured on the audio parts of language tests and a language teaching book. I have also written language tests within reading and grammar. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Any project where I am given total creative control and it proves to be ultimately successful. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The communication with the students with its wide variety and complexity and the satisfaction derived when they successfully apply the lessons I have taught them. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Work spent on necessary but time consuming administration.
