Although I do have a certification to teach beginners and Business English. I am looking to move to Dominican Republic and begin The Permaculture Research Institute of the Dominican Republic. Contact me if your an interested in a brief on Permaculture. What nationality are you? I am a 9th generation Canadian citizen of Dutch,French & Chippewa Indian.I am known as a Metis in Canada. This is recognized as one of Canada's 3 indigenous or native cultures.The other 2 are Inuit Eskimo's and First Nation which have over 600 tribes in Canada. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English but am studying Spanish. I have been to Dominican Republic 7 times making contacts and learning about DR. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Dominican Republic, the area is not important but I do like the fertile valley region.But any region where farming can be developed. I have been to Dominican Republic 7 times making contacts and learning about DR. And plan on living, marrying and work there. I love the people, the music,the beaches and have many good friends there. What countries have you worked in? Hawaii, Canada, Vietnam What field do you currently work in? I work in the construction and Permaculture sectors.On occasion I produce, promote and publicize shows, Latin or Hawaiian. Although I find lately I have very little time for this. What fields have you worked in before? Media, advertising, promotion, Public Relations, special event production,lecture,Public Speaking, Master of Ceremonies What qualifications do you hold? PDC Permaculture Design Certificate, English teaching Certificate Cruise Ship Diploma Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? They go hand in hand. Although extensive life experience in any area can at times surpass formal education. Formal education is theory, while extensive live experiences is real life practical experience. Years of practical experience gives you talents, knowledge and expertise in your choosen area of expertise.While formal education can give you a strong academic perspective it will take years to develop through trial and error what a person with practical experience already knows. However, each will have strong skills to bring to the able to when working together on a common goal.Team work is always the key. Describe the benefits of working with others Its a rich rewarding experience especially in this day and age especially in 3rd world countries. In this scenario there is a very strong need to build strong viable sustainable communities which thrives on working together. Learning, sharing knowledge, helping each other, to better lives of those in need.For me this is a rich and rewarding experience. Describe the benefits of working alone There are times when quiet times are needed to reflect on days activities. What did we do, what did we accomplish, what changes should I make, what could I have done better or different, plan tomorrow's goals directions etc. What was your worst working experience? Injuries sometimes happen, harsh climates, extreme rains, winds or cold weather What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? There is a time to listen and a time to talk. Effective communications is a key to success. What unique skills do you have? Very good Team leader,motivator,team player,communicator,researcher, educator,lecturer and a very hard worker. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job is spending the rest of my life setting up The Permaculture Research Institute of the Dominican Republic, a demonstration, educational center. This would help fulfill The Master Plan set up by the Founding fathers of the Permaculture movement of setting up Permaculture Institutes around the world. Under the Permaculture banner to build the first truly Eco Sustainable Village in the Dominican Republic. This will act as a model to show other communities in D.R. what can be done. To teach all Dominican’s a better way, a more economical way to conserve energy, harvest and a more efficient use of water, (Over 90% of water of traditional farming practices is lost through absorption, evaporation). Teach the most advanced methods of organic farming using what nature has provided to build strong nutrient rich soils to produce better, higher yield healthier foods for their families. How we can set up micro industries from products we produce. How to build sustainable forestry and establish food forests. And build their own affordable ecologically beautiful homes using sustainable, indigenous and recycled materials. How to affordably harness energy via wind, solar, geothermal technologies. Working with any government agency, University, group, organization, Corporation or private individuals to teach farmers nationally how to produce higher yield organic crops using Permaculture technologies. Herbicide, pesticide and chemical fertilizer free. But also to demonstrate to Hotels, Resorts, Real Estate developers what real ecological, environmental, economically, sustainability is all about, using Permaculture methodologies. And to give then a direction as to what they can do and must do to aid the ecological and environmental problems to planet faces. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? It is all very interesting, every aspect of Permaculture.The most rewarding is going onto a piece of land and building it from the ground up, to become ecological, environmentally, and economically sustainable and profitable using the least amount of energy, from resources taken from the land, using indigenous materials.
