Looking for Environmental, Market Integration or Micro-Finance positionWhat type of job are you looking for? I have a bachelors degree in Political Science and am currently seeking a position in an NGO that focuses on environmental issues, market integration or community based micro-finance. I will be spending 3 months this summer volunteering in Ecuador, both on the coast and in the Amazon. What nationality are you? I am American. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English fluently, working Spanish. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? I am interested in finding a position in Ecuador or Peru. The biodiversity in these countries is rich and the environmental conservation sector is relatively large. What countries have you worked in? The U.S. and Ecuador this summer. I have lived in Europe and traveled to seven different countries. What field do you currently work in? I have a lot of experience in the hospitality and tourism industry as well as being schooled in Political Science. I have a strong interest in the growing field of sustainable tourism. What qualifications do you hold? BA Political Science Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I consider formal education to be useful in developing communicative, analytical, inter-cultural and other skills needed to be successful in a growingly globalized world. However, the skills acquired when practicing learned education are valuable in applicative ways. Describe the benefits of working with others Working with others can be a tool for innovative, creative thinking, while producing and implementing cross-cultural ideas. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone can provide individuals the privacy to produce work at a more efficient rate. What was your worst working experience? A generally negative working environment for me would be inhospitable, unorganized and unaccomodating. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? I have learned to be a "planner" and a "doer". I tend to be a very organized person, but once the organization stage has been set, I follow through with the plans quite well. What unique skills do you have? I have spent hundreds to thousands of hours volunteering throughout my life at various organizations. These include Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army and other faith and non-faith based organizations. This summer I will be volunteering for 3 months at two different NGO's in Ecuador for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I was taught at a very young age that being part of a community is important. If a person is blessed enough to have more than they need, it is important to help community members that are less fortunate. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? I would like to work in Management at a non-governmental organization or an inter-governmental organization focused on environmental issues, market integration or commuity based micro-finance programs, such as Kiva. Ideally, I would like my work to be outside the U.S. How can potential employers contact you? Please contact me by email: NortonE531@yahoo.com |
