Recent Graduate Seeking Job in/around Guayaquil

What type of job are you looking for?

I am looking for a job that simply allows me to help others and perform a needed service. I have work experience in a variety of fields and have found meaning and appreciation for each. I would appreciate any job that would allow me to further my existing skills and/or acquire new skills.

What nationality are you?

I am a citizen and resident of the United States, but I have full Canadian citizenship also.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

My native language is English. I studied four years of Spanish in high school, but i have lost a great deal due to lack of practice. I am currently working on improving my Spanish, and I believe in a short time I could reacquaint myself with the language. I can read Hebrew, but I can only understand limited biblical Hebrew. I have limited Japanese, and I can also read and write hiragana and katakana but not kanji.

What area do you want to find work?

I am ideally seeking employment in or around Guayaquil. I have many close friends in the area.

What countries have you worked in?

I have only worked in the United States. I do have over four years of experience in traditional Japanese business so I am not only familiar with the language but also their customs and practices. I was invited, in University, to a summer job in South Africa and Kenya in the field of biotechnology/recombinant genetics.

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

I do not have any work visas.

What field do you currently work in?

I am currently in the hospitality field. I have been employed for four years in a traditional Japanese restaurant. I have worked at this job throughout my time in University as a server, bartender, and manager. In this time I have become the most senior employee and have been promoted to the position of service manager. This job requires a great deal of multi-tasking, employee management, schedule management, inter-cultural relations, and customer relations. In this job I also work with and provide services for many prominent Japanese and American companies which includes many pharmaceutical groups and the local Chamber of Commerce.

What fields have you worked in before?

I have worked in a variety of fields other than food service. I am not afraid to "get my hands dirty" as I have had jobs that require a great deal of manual labor including farm work and employment at an arms distribution warehouse. I also have biotechnology experience. During my undergraduate education I did lab research for three different professors, positions that were highly coveted and rarely held by first year students and those only seeking a minor in the field. I also have some experience working at the local Refugee Center. At this temporary position I issued English proficiency tests and also helped to teach English to refugees, most of which were Spanish speakers. For two years I also ran my own at home business through Arbonne International. I also have experience as a campaign manager for a local politician. My work with this city commissioner led to his reelection. Lastly, I have experience providing home care for a person with cerebral palsy.

What qualifications do you hold?

I have a B.A. in Philosophy with a concentration in Logic, Argumentation, and Philosophy of Science. My minor was in Biology with a focus in Recombinant Genetics. I also have a certificate in Political Communication. I am also in preparation to get TEFL/TESL certification.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

I have a great appreciation for both formal education and skills. I consider myself a lifelong student and have always greatly enjoyed formal education and hope to pursue further education in my lifetime. I also greatly value skills. Skills can provide immediate services and employment opportunities and I believe that this is essential in having a successful life and career. Education can provide the information, philosophy, and mindset to provide the background needed to successfully acquire occupational and life skills.

Describe the benefits of working with others

I consider myself a social person and I thrive on peer interaction and teamwork. I consider group work greatly rewarding and I believe in the philosophy of synergy. Most any job requires some level of group work and I believe success in this area is essential.

Describe the benefits of working alone

I believe individual work can be very rewarding and beneficial for growth of self esteem. Although I greatly enjoy group work, there is a greater sense of personal accomplishment when one does something alone.
