B.A. in Psychology Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I cannot answer that question. Some people naturally develop a vocation or skill such as mechanics, carpentry, or art and therefore seek non-academic institutions to refine and use their abilities. Others find their skills and vocation within an academic setting. I cannot place one over the other in importance. Describe the benefits of working with others I am an incredibly social person in my personal and professional life. With a degree in Psychology and a work as a consultant and community organizer I thrive in working directly with people, one on one, or in group settings. I value project work highly. As a writer, I collaborative directly with agency staff and other key community members to complete proposals and program literature. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone has many benefits, especially when writing, grading papers, lesson planning and researching. These tasks necessitate alone time. Alone time allows for concentration and helps one complete the aforementioned tasks. What was your worst working experience? I worked in restaurants, fine dining, for many years. The worst part of those highly competitive and stressful environments was the lack of teamwork and camaraderie. I learned that I couldn't thrive in a job environment with so little support amongst co-workers. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Do not sell yourself short. I am still learning this one. What unique skills do you have? After another 4 to 5 years of experience in different public sector work I would like to become a full time Consultant in Organizational Development and/or Diversity Training, especially for international companies or companies with a large Spanish speaking work force What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Researching and collaborating with the agencies I work for, and secondly writing and developing grant proposals that gain funding for their programs. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? The meticulousness of editing What do you do for fun?
