I wish to work in Fiji because the Degree in Environmental Science that i have, encompasses Fiji's Environment What countries have you worked in? i have worked and am presently working in Fiji. i have not worked in any overseas country. What field do you currently work in? I work in the field of project management What fields have you worked in before? I have worked in the field of environmental monitoring and management for 1year. What qualifications do you hold? Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental) Diploma in Environmental Science Certificate in Industrial Laboratory Technology Certificate in Green Productivity & Environment Management Systems (APO) Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I consider formal education as more valuable because it is the basis on which skills can be derived. Describe the benefits of working with others Working with others reduces the work load, increases your learning ability through peers, adds as a motivation towards achieving a goal and increases your social network Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone gives you less distraction from your work. increases your ability to focus and builds self confidence What was your worst working experience? None so far What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? In Fiji it is about "whom you know" - may sound offending to some but to me it is the lesson to remember. From my experience i know that even if you have a very good qualification, but to get a job related to your qualification, you need to know someone who is at a high post, who can get you in. Apart from that, another important lesson i have learnt is that whatever job you get, take time out and learn about it as quickly as possible, by asking questions all the time. If you are new to something and if you dont ask, you wont be able to grasp the job. What unique skills do you have? I have good knowledge of Environmental management. i am well versed with the Environmental legislation of Fiji. i am good with computers and it is my second interest from environmental science. i am now working as a project leader therefore have gained fair bit of knowledge in project management. i am a very fast and keen learner, if given an opportunity i will learn the job as quickly as i can to your surprise. i find it easy to work independently or in a team and i enjoy field work alot. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? i dream of being an Environmental Scientist/Conservationist What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The interesting thing about applied environmental science is that it covers flora and fauna from terrestrial, freshwater to marine. it encompasses environmental issues, biodiversity, climate change, ecology and so on. it is a very wide field and it is now at the height of global recognition. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? none as far as i think what can you provide with your skills and qualification? it is a known fact that the world is striving to green practices. With my qualification and skills i can integrate any working environment or job into reducing its ecological footprint on earth. i can integrate environmental management into any work process therefore reducing its environmental impacts and also uplifting its compliance to environmental legislation.
