Filming and video production, music videos, live videos, video art. Event management, artist liason, Promotions. What fields have you worked in before? Art Event organisation, event managment, music event organisation (five years). Telemarketing and marketing (three years), Promotions (three years), Secretarial, Customer Service (three years). What qualifications do you hold? BA Fine Art Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Skills. I think having a degree in Art is a wonderful thing for me to have achieved but i also hold my years of experience in Telemarketing, Marketing, Promotions and Event Management as invaluable to where i want my career to go. My degree has opened many door for me into other areas as well. Without it i wouldn't have found my real career choice. Describe the benefits of working alone Being more focused and self aware, not having to rely on anyone or have anyone relying on you. What was your worst working experience? as a customer service representative for Xtra Vision, a video rental store in Dublin, Ireland. The work conditions were appalling. The customers were rude, the pay was minimum and the superiors were unpleasant to work with. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Not to rely on anyone else, to work as a team but not to depend on anyone else, to make sure that i am totally equipped and have all the necessary skills to do something instead of hoping or asking someone else to do it. What unique skills do you have? The ability to organise, on my own, hundreds of artists, performers and musicians' equipment, slot times, load in and load out, set up, pack down, promote, market and budget. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Event managing my own custom tailored music and art events, eventually leading to running a 'Fringe Festival' type of music and arts festival. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The people interacting through an event, the interesting dynamic created when art and music meet, the doors that are opened for yourself, and for many people who attend the event, and are participating in it, watching it all come together when the event begins. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Sometimes it can get tiring physically and mentally, it can get lonely.
