I would really like to work in Accra, Ghana...have researched the area, I have prepared myself with all vacinations i will need and renewing my passport very soon. I have 30 years experience in a general hospital and think i would be an asset to the Ghanian community...whether it is in a hospital or outreach to rural communities...I am ready to meet the challenge. Going through the process of getting visa from Ghana as a visitor in 1 months time...if i could have interviews at the same time, i would be very happy. What field do you currently work in? Registered nursing in a general hospital...maternity, pediatrics, medical, surgery, palliative care, elderly, premature and newborn care. What fields have you worked in before? Labor, delivery and post-partum/newborn care. General staff nurse with active updating of nursing care plans, doctors orders, organization of emergency patient care. What qualifications do you hold? Registered staff primary care Teaching and working in Maternity department...epidural care..newborn care, labour and post-partum care Active member of the respiratory and cardiac code team Intravenous insertion and care for all ages Defibrilator care Tube care and private nursing with critically sick people including respiratory machine care Premature care until transport to bigger center Many emergency air transfers with all kinds of patients Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I have graduated from a college nursing school in a 2-year program from 1978-1980. I believe i have many skills as mentioned above, and when working in a small community i have seen many things...i learn constantly...and younger nurses i teach the knowledge i know. I am flexible in all areas...i am calm, quick thinking, and i love people. Describe the benefits of working with others Team nursing is a general progress and assesments of patient care. Nurses from Ghana will teach me the care and customs of the country...i take it as a challenge and reward system. Describe the benefits of working alone I am confident working in the nursing career...i know i have a lot of knowledge and teaching abilities, to reach the Ghanian people, and to learn even from the smallest encounter. What was your worst working experience? I love nursing and i can't say i have ever had a worst experience...every experience brings teaching to me, confidence and valued lessons for every day and long term challenges. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? To be a very caring, and efficient nurse. I love all areas of nursing and i would love to finish my nursing career where people need me the most. What unique skills do you have? I am a good listener, i am very patient. I want the best for my patients in the situations there will be. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Reaching out to care for the needy people Teaching maternity care to labor, delivery and post-partum/newborn and child care. Making my patients feel as if they are wanted, loved and cared for to the best of my abilities. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Maternity care...teaching to parents, students etc. Palliative care What are the least interesting aspects of your field? None that i can see so far..
