Desperately Seeking Librarian Job

What type of job are you looking for?

Librarian

What nationality are you?

African-American

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

Spanish at the intermediate level.

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

Ghana because I am well aware of its need for teachers and librarians.

What countries have you worked in?

None thus far.

What field do you currently work in?

Education. Employed as a substitute teacher in Atlanta Georgia.

What fields have you worked in before?

Library field. Five years of experience working in academic libraries. Was previously the head of an academic library.

What qualifications do you hold?

Master of library and information science. Also certified as a school teacher in English Language Arts, Social Studies and Library School Media.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

Skills are far mor valuable because education itself does not mean one has the ability to do what the job entails. Many people graduate from teacher training programs but do not have strong instructional skills or strong classroom management. Many lawyers fresh out of law school lose cases because they do not have the skill needed to be successful in the courtroom. Professionals in most fields obtain skills outside the classroom.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Within a team there are more hands to finish manual tasks. There are also more minds to think through situations. In a group effort, when one person falls there is another to pick up the slack.

Describe the benefits of working alone

working alone allows the individual to reach inside of oneself be more creative in solving problems. One is more likely to learn to be independent because working without camaradirie forces the individual to step and solve problems without help. Furthermore, it is more rewarding to finish a job by onesself.

What was your worst working experience?

I have had many challenges, however, I cannot say that any experience was so bad that it stands out as my worst working experience. If anything my worst experience is being out of work.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

No man is an island. If you want to be successful, you have to trust in someone.

What unique skills do you have?

Aritstic ability. I dance, write poetry and I also do storytelling. I write my own stories as well as some of my own songs. I can use this to create programs for children at a library.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

My dream job would be one that allows me to use my artisitc abilities to educate while giving me the freedom to express myself.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

Being able to do research about any topic of interest and apply the knowledge through programming.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

Cataloging

How can potential employers contact you?

Contact me by e-mail.
