Looking for Bar work

What type of job are you looking for?

I am looking for a job in the Hospitality sector, preferably Bar work.

What nationality are you?

I am British

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

My native tongue in English but I am currently teaching myself Spanish. I will be honest and say that so far I only know enough to get by on holiday but hope to keep improving.

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

I would love to work in Gibraltar as I lived there when I was younger and after visiting there this month I felt drawn to the place. It always was and still is an interesting, peaceful and wonderfully multi-cultural society which you would be hard pushed to find elsewhere.

What countries have you worked in?

Only the UK.

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

Europe, as I hold a British Passport.

What field do you currently work in?

I am currently a Bar Manager.

What fields have you worked in before?

I have varied experience ranging from Administrative roles to Bar and Waitress work. I also worked for a short time in a shop while still in education, and I helped my parents run their Guest House for six months.

What qualifications do you hold?

9 Gcse's and 2 'A' Levels

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

I think both are important. Whilst some jobs can obviously depend on the employee having formal education and training it can be more beneficial in certain trades to work your way up from the bottom, thus ensuring you understand the business inside out.

Describe the benefits of working with others

It improves your social skills, understanding of others and your patience for others. It can also ensure work can be a more enjoyable place to be if you work well with others

Describe the benefits of working alone

It can sometimes give you the space you need to to complete a job without interruption or distractions. It can also help you improve your own time management skills.

What was your worst working experience?

I worked for a firm called Help Hire for roughly two weeks (not included on my C.V.) before I walked out. I found the company slightly immoral and the management quite unsupportive.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

Always be honest with both your employers and your colleagues/ employees.

What unique skills do you have?

I think my social skills and my ability to work well with others even in difficult situations helps me to stand out from others.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

Working in a friendly but busy Bar/ restaurant/ Club and being part of a great team.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

Meeting different people on a regular basis but still maintaining a good relationship with the customers who use the establishment regularly, meaning every day differs slightly.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

When quite periods occur, although they can be useful for getting certain jobs done which can prove difficult when you have a full Bar.

Where do you see yourself in two years time?

Hopefully well established in the Gibraltar's community, working for a good firm and if possible working my way up through the company.
