Civil Engineering

What type of job are you looking for?

Something within the Civil engineering field. Preferably, construction management, supervisory work, QA, site/serveying/senior engineering position. I will be competent in any of these roles. Not much experience in design though.

What nationality are you?

Hellenic

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

English, Greek

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

Anywhere remote is good but preferably Afganistan. Not because I love the challenge of the risk involved with taking up a job there. Mainly because I believe that this challenge pays of well. Both as a salary and like an experience.

What countries have you worked in?

UK, Hellas.

What field do you currently work in?

I run my own firm as a concrete frame and residential building contractor.

What fields have you worked in before?

Four years as site engineer in various construction projects in the UK, London area. Two years as construction manager/site engineer building sewage networks in Greece.

What qualifications do you hold?

BEng Civil Engineering

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

Skills you can develop but education you only get. Generally I would say education, but where I am intending to go... skill.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Learning, communication, broading of conception, evolution through challenge nad competition, team spirit, behavioural trouble.

Describe the benefits of working alone

There is noone else to blame for the mess.

What was your worst working experience?

I can't thing of anything that bad to mention.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

Safety first. You can't beat stupidity. Mistakes do occur and can cost dearly. The sooner you realise and recognise one the less it will cost.

What unique skills do you have?

I am very experienced in the use of surveying equipment and engineering surveying. I have worked effectively with foreign construction personnel that didn’t speak the language. I have sound military training and have been specially trained by the army in the use of explosives, mine laying and mine sweeping. I am a scuba diver and a free diver. I work out and my physical condition is always at its best. I can function and think clearly under pressure. I can say no.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

Leading a development firm. But I would also be happy with a job in construction, 60% field work, 40% office work that pays well and allows me some free afternoons and weekends

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

Conception, realisation, the joy of creation.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

File keeping

What is worth risking your life for?

A life

How can potential employers contact you?
