Formal education is a must to have the ABCs of the job, how to do it effectively and efficiently with all the necessary psychology and principles needed in it. Skills on the other hand is also paramount. It is gained through actual experience, which could not just be acquired from the theories and formal lectures we learn in the four corners of the university classrooms ...as the popular maxim proves "Experience is the best teacher." Skills are what is making the job simple, effectual and efficient. As a proof, my colleagues from the previous workplaces i have been, didn't want me to leave and used to miss me badly. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? That teaching is not just a mere job to earn a living, but rather, a mission. That, it is indeed a noble profession because a teacher should have a great heart to likewise reach the hearts of the students even of those most unlovable. That those last, least and lost in the class could be be taken cared of, so to bring him to the track that we want every learner to walk and the character we want him to have. That in the teacher's hand lies the shaping of a strong nation - for having the responsible, characterful and productive manpower in the future. I learned that teaching is mentoring in every sense and role-modeling in itself. So before one teaches, he/she must be equipped with the character, knowledge and positive outlook [paradigm shift] - which, mentoring is all about. What unique skills do you have? I am articulate in English speech. I am good in writing, I write poems, speeches, editorials and news articles. As a matter of fact, I have been a school paper adviser for four years already. And now that I am a teacher, it is still my dream job, with some modifications perhaps, like reasonable salary and benefits and more multi-media resources in every classroom. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The most interesting aspect of my teaching field is the priceless joy of seeing and hearing my students applying what I teach. And when they are given tasks they give their best and they surprise me when they exceed my expectations. It is a very rewarding feeling -interacting with young thinkers, touching their lives. You watch people duplicate who you are. You witness how knowledge, values, character and skills multiply. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? The least interesting aspects in my field in my present work setting, are the heap of paper work, daily lesson planning and sometimes being the least paid amongst professionals. It's better to have other staff to do the paper work and instead of lesson planning it could be daily lesson logging of topic, reference and activities only to give more time preparing teaching aids. What is your guiding principle in teaching? Keep loving no matter what, in time, even the rudest, will give back love. How can potential employers contact you? email ad: hlr_blr@yahoo.com |
