Graphic Designer/AssistantWhat type of job are you looking for? I am looking for a position that I can use both my love for creative work, as well as be an assistant/helper to the company or team I am working for. I love doing many things and love positions where I can multi-task with different projects and tasks What languages do you speak (and at what level)? I speak English (my first language) and have learned spanish, but a bit rusty as I do not use it on a regular basis. What State are you looking to work in and why? I am looking to work in Maui, Hawaii as it is the most beautiful place with the most beautiful people, and inspirational for any sort of work I might be able to do. What field do you currently work in? Currently I have been working as a family assistant/nanny for the last year, but have also been helping out with the design for the parent's 2 businesses (flyers and brochures). What fields have you worked in before? I have worked in performing arts, then into childcare, graphic design/production design and also experience working in a large print house, learning the other end of the design world. What qualifications do you hold? I have a diploma in Computer Graphic Design, as well as in performing arts. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Skills. Formal education is great, but sometimes when you have been in school for too long you do not realize reality of what you learn and how to put it into practice, and so it is not as much as asset. I find any skill that I have had to pick up on the spot in my work place I have learned quicker and easier, as you are forced to pick it up right away and put it into practice, which logs it in my memory right away. Describe the benefits of working with others Working with others is a great way to keep yourself motivated. Not only do other people bring new perspectives on projects and tasks, but they also help to keep you from getting into set ways of doing things and helps you to learn new ways of dealing with different personalities, which helps in both work and personal situations in life. Describe the benefits of working alone You can be more focused and time efficient, as you can create your own systems to keep things running without having to explain and show others. What was your worst working experience? Good question. I would have to say none of them, because they have all be good learning experiences and have had both good and bad to them. If I had to choose, it would be the production assistant role that I had. I loved the position, and was in charge of dealing with the clients and processing high end custom furniture orders for display suites and wealthy clients in the area. The owner was alway son his own time and late with orders, or would not listen to my suggestions of job completion times, and so I would have to deal with the angry clients that have been waiting weeks for overdue furniture that was promised to them by my boss. That was the worst part of the job I would have to say. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? That if you care and truly listen with honesty and stay true to what you say, there is a lot of respect that comes. Caring and being upfront with what is going on instead of trying to lie and convince people of what they know is untrue takes more effort, and hurts people in the end. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? A job that I could be multi-tasking with elements of design and interacting with people, working in a team. Why should a company think of hiring you? I am a trust worthy hard working person that true enjoys anything I am asked to do. No job is too big or small for me, as long as the end goal is something that will help or add to the company and staff that I am working with I will take on any task that comes my way. I am creative and easy to work with. I love working with people and love being challenged in my work place. How can potential employers contact you? by email at thoughland@gmail.com |
