I am Italian-American, A US Citizen born in Italy, presently living in the United States.
What languages do you speak (and at what level)?
While English is my primary language, I can speak fluent Spanish, and Italian as well. My Italian is getting rusty though, as I don't have many opportunities to use it. I also read Portuguese, and can translate documents from both Spanish and Portuguese to English.
What country or area are you looking to work in and why?
I am seeking an opportunity in Honduras (Tegucigalpa, Yoro, or near-by) because my husband is a native Honduran and wishes to return to his country.
What countries have you worked in?
I have worked in Italy and the United States.
What countries do you have a visa to work in?
I do not currently have a visa to work in any country other than the US, but will be capable of obtaining the necessary documents beforehand.
What field do you currently work in?
I currently work in a university, operating and maintaining patient simulators, a student performance evaluation database system, and a digital video management system. I also program medical simulation scenarios for students testing on the simulators, am accountable for the security of sensitive video footage and as well as the server environment, and control the lending of expensive electronic equipment.
What fields have you worked in before?
I have worked in an IT capacity, assisting in the development of dynamic websites and applications. I have also translated sensitive documents from both Spanish and Portuguese to English, for a company in Brazil.
What qualifications do you hold?
I currently hold an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Simulation & Game Programming
Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?
While skills are very valuable, I know that it takes a very strong character to obtain a formal education; Therefore, I consider Formal education to be more important.
Describe the benefits of working with others
Working with others, as a team, is beneficial in that each team member supports the others to reach a common goal. Having an open mind, one can learn a great deal from a team mate.
Describe the benefits of working alone
In working alone one can comfortably use independent, creative thinking to accomplish any task at his or her own pace.
What was your worst working experience?
Before I reached my goal of obtaining a formal education and then working in IT, I had to survive as a public servant, digging drainage ditches for my city. It was very difficult but also rewarding at times.
What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?
The most important lesson I have learned throughout my career is that honest hard work and perseverance will eventually pay off.
What unique skills do you have?
Ability to read and understand documents in languages that I cannot actually speak and translate them into English. I also have a strong ability to teach myself and work independently in any environment, without supervision.
What would you consider as your 'dream job'?
A job in the technology field, where I can utilize my diverse background to add value to the operation while continuing to learn.
What are the most interesting aspects of your field?
Patient Simulators are extremely interesting in that they have realistic anatomy and clinical functionality. The life-like mannequins provide highly realistic patient care scenarios.
Wjat are the least interesting aspects of your field?
The least interesting aspects of my field is that I work alone ninety-five percent of the time, in a cold room, with many loud servers and no windows. While I enjoy my independence, it does get boring at times.
