Tour guideWhat type of job are you looking for? I am looking for a tour guiding job. What nationality are you? Hungarian. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? Hungarian (native) English - fluent (advanced oral and written exam) French - intermediate (I study French at HÍ at the moment, BA program) Hebrew - basic Icelandic - I am learning Icelandic. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? I am looking for a job in Iceland, in Reykjavík, because I study here now at HÍ and I would like to make a living as well! (My lessons are from Monday to Thursday, so I can work on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.) What countries have you worked in? Hungary What countries do you have a visa to work in? EU countries, I also have a permission to work in Iceland. What field do you currently work in? I teach English at the moment. What fields have you worked in before? I worked as an English teacher, and a tour guide. What qualifications do you hold? I have a high school degree and I finished a tour guide school, too. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I consider skills more valuable. Papers can't always show the real knowledge of a person, and one's personality. Describe the benefits of working with others Working with others means that the people in the team can support each other and can correct the mistakes if there is any. Encouraging each other (and getting encouragements) can give a lot of energy to the members of a team. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone gives the opportunity to the worker to prove how much s/he is able to do alone. It is a great opportunity to self-improvement. What was your worst working experience? My worst working experience was the best at the same time. I learned a lot from it, and didn't make the same mistake again. I wasn't well prepared for a tour (it was at the beginning of my career). What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? I always have to be up to date as a tour guide, and must know the most possible about the topic (or city) I am guiding about (in). What unique skills do you have? Based on the feedback I got from the bosses I've had, I find myself reliable and precise, I can solve unexpected situations and I can stay clear-minded in different circumstances. I learn fast, and I am flexible, too, but can stand out expressively and positively. Even after doing the same type of tour for more than a year in Budapest (Jewish quarter tours) I was still enthusiastic during my tours and I constantly kept learning new things about the subject. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job would be where my knowledge and enthusiasm is appreciated, and I can use my skills. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? As tour guide it is possible to travel around the world and see many things. I also find it very interesting to show the country where I live to tourists, and to make their experiences enjoyable so that they have fun and learn about the place at the same time. It is also interesting to meet people from different cultures, and learn about them. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? I didn't find an answer to this question. I really like tour guiding and telling people information that they don't know, and it is a challenge for me to make my tours interesting and exciting. Why did you want to come to Iceland? I wanted to come to Iceland, because I found this country amazing. I have been to many places in the world, but last summer I was here on vacation, and I felt I wanted to spend some more time here. I am planning to stay in Iceland for about 3 years (to finish university here). How can potential employers contact you? through email: dalmavagyok@hotmail.com or phone: 6992827 |
