| Know Your Rights! I just got my first job in September last year and it has been so horrible! Its a large retail store and they always make me work past my finishing time, the wages are terrible and I have to wait so long before I can ask for a raise. I started to wonder if this is fair so I looked up what are the regulations protecting workers in Idaho and found this site which is full of useful information. Its the official state page so you can be sure its correct. Since July 2008 the minimum hourly wage is $6.55 (but for tipped employees its $3.35). For new employees under the age of 20 the minimum hourly wage is $4.25 but ONLY FOR THE FIRST 90 CALENDAR DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT. After this you are entitled to the higher rate of $6.55 so ask for it! There's lots of other helpful info on this page too like when you should be paid overtime, what to do if you are not being paid correctly, under what circumstances is an employer allowed to fire you etc. |
