QUALIFICATIONS:

BCLS, ACLS and PALS certified; successful completion of a 12 week trauma team leader course at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Designated as a trauma team leader for a level one trauma center for both adults and pediatrics. CEN and CCRN pending. Nationally certified instructor in both basic and advanced EKG interpretation and testing methods.

Working knowledge of HICFA, MEDICARE, MEDICAID, County and Department of Health standards and regulations. Very familiar with ICD 9 coding and CPT coding and reimbursement procedures. Very familiar with long term care facilities and operations as a Director of Nursing on local and regional levels. Successful completion of several State surveys of long term care facilities in Louisiana, and Arizona as Director of Nursing and as Consulting agent identifying problems, writing plans of correction and implementing those plans and teaching.

Negotiating bids for products to be used. Recruited by Regional Nurse Manager and Regional Administrator as part of a 4 person team to evaluate other facilities in Arizona, Nevada, and southern California.

Consultant for Sunrise, Inc.

Duties: Wrote and implemented plan of correction for State survey. Staff teaching in class room setting. Consulted with Director of Nursing Services for state survey. Reported to Administrator regarding nursing concerns. Consulted with the Regional Nurse Manager for this corporation. Asked to survey another facility, but unable to do so because of new position with Vencor at Valley Healthcare. This was approved by Vencor prior to employment because of previous obligation.

February 1999 - June 1999

Tucson Medical Center

Staff nurse

Duties: General; and assisted with the 24 hour observation unit for chest pain management protocol. Assisted with the new procedural approach to management of new onset diabetes in young adults designed to save islet cells for diabetic management, written in the American Journal of Medicine as trial study with success rate.

Fellows Enterprises, Inc

Duties: Director of Nursing Services. Hired to clear deficiencies cited by state survey prior to my arrival. To restructure nursing staff, staff education, and initiate an 18 bed skilled services unit by state and federal guidelines. Liaison with staff/clients/family members/ and medical services. Implement a wound care protocol, team and product evaluation for 124 residents with 78 serious skin issues. State survey completed with no deficiencies, full staffing complement, two stage I skin issues, 3 new MD’s on staff and trained new Director of Nursing. Services and initial training of an MDS coordinator. Started Administrative Training Program. Tested by State Examiner, successfully scored 98 on exam.

November 1999 - March 2000

Azela Villa Nursing and Rehab Center

Duties: Director of Nursing Services. Hired to clear facility of state survey deficiencies, initiate a stated approved skilled services unit, manage/arrest nursing budget issues. Staff education and resolutions, writing policies and procedures within state and federal guidelines. Establish par level of nursing supplies and ordering system. State survey resulted in clearing of all F-tags, approval of skilled units. Other issues were resolved after which I was recruited by Fellows Enterprises.

February 1998 - November 1999

Maison de’Lafayette

Duties: Director of Nursing Services. Hired to help clear 4 pages of state audit (F-tags) from minor to severe in nature. Resolved nurse staffing issues and employed full time staff and evaluation of current staff members. Acted as purchasing agent and evaluation of equipment and cost containment. Staff/client/medical liaison. Employed two nurses and taught/supervised MDS, rap’s and triggers on resident plan of care. Employed two assistant directors to help organize facility. Wrote policies, procedures and plans of correction and supervised the implementation. Result was all state F-tags cleared, stable full time staff, purchasing par level established and residents plans of care updated based on regulations set by state and federal agencies

February 1991 - November 1999

Assistant to Family Practice MD, Howard Alleman

Duties: Made morning rounds with M.D., planning care of patients. Made evening rounds alone interpreting lab work, x-rays, and other exams, then ordering further follow up for the following days morning rounds. Consulting with him on evening rounds daily. Worked in office relating with insurance companies on patient length of stay, treatment, and office visits with relation to DRG regulations. Completed the Louisiana Kid Med provider training and organized a KID MED Clinic separate from the office practice. Followed the care off over 300 clients aging from birth to 21 years of age providing physical exams, immunizations, referrals to medical specialists when needed and following up with these appointments. Referred clients to dentists, ophthalmologists as well as any other special needs that were found appropriate. I also followed pre-natal care for expectant mothers. A state and federal agency, all without incident or deficient practice with evaluations of my performance and functions every six months. I was further certified to perform and development evaluations by the Denver Master’s Program of Denver, Colorado and the Louisiana KID MED Provider Association.

Abbeville General Hospital

Started as a new graduate RN.

Staff nurse promoted to ICU/ER supervisor, then House Supervisor and Assistant Director of Nursing over the years spent there and then as Director of Nursing Services. During my stay there did product evaluation, staffing, was chairperson for changes in policies and procedures, was part of an air/sea/land rescue and transport team. I also worked with the hospital accounting firm to devise a computer generated staffing pattern and became part of the representatives for the program, demonstrating to nursing personnel interested in the program. For hospitals interested in purchasing the computer program, sold across the Nation.

January 1978 - 1994, I have been an instructor at the local College of Nursing for LPN’s in Med/Surg nursing, microbiology, biology, pharmacology and EKG testing and monitoring. I remain as a “guest lecturer”.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Started/operated and taught medical billing and coding system, sold for profit.

Numerous awards for service in nursing practice.

Citations for work with the Louisiana KID MED Association.

Member of the Louisiana Nursing Home Association.

Chapter member of DON’s in action, devoted to the improvement of care in long term care facilities.

Assisted in job placement for misplaced employees by teaching night classes in medically related fields in local colleges.

Volunteer at local free clinic for those unable to afford health care.

Trainer/Medic for Brandon Mitchell, drafted by the New England Patriots. Now with the Seattle Seahawks. (Volunteer work for the athletic organization.)

Military and non-military air/land/sea rescue and transport.

Spokesperson and advocate for the Victims of Violent Crimes with the Justice Department in Washington, DC.

Honor student at McNesse State University

Senior Class President of graduating class at Charity Hospital School of Nursing.
