I have been coaching and Teaching U.S. History, which covers Oklahoma History, Government, Economics, and U.S. History. What fields have you worked in before? I have been at several jobs where I was over a bunch of people before I got into coaching and teaching. Thats why I want to finish my masters in Adminstration so I can be a principal or a superintendent. What qualifications do you hold? I hold a oklahoma teaching certificate and also a bus license. I work well with a computer and was a life quard for about 5 years while I was going to school. I also have a CDL license, where I can drive a bus. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Students learn in different ways. Some learn with manipulative skill work and others learn better cooperative work. Every student is different and its the teachers job to decide and keep an evaluation on each student so he/she can provide the best for their students. As I teacher I try to provide all sorts of teaching styles so that every student will achieve at their level of learning. Describe the benefits of working with others I graduated from a small high school in Oklahoma. I had about 30 students in my graduating class. The two places that I have teached at have been small schools as well. At the smaller schools I believe administrators, faculty members, and all the staff members must work together give the students the education they need. I believe it is important to be professional and treat other members of the system like you would treat your own family. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone has its benifits. Sometimes you can get more done working alone. But having a aid helps as well especially if you have a IEP student in the classroom. But i don't mind at all working alone. What was your worst working experience? As a coach i believe you have more harsh critics than a teacher. As a basketball coach everyone wants their children on the court. But in basketball you can only put five atheletes on the court. I try to put the best five kids on the court and sometimes parents don't agree. But as a head coach winning is important because if you don't win you might not have a job the next year. The first year i was coaching it was hard for me to take some of the criticism but after a while you get use to it and rub it off your shoulders. Being in the classroom its easy to let the parents know this is what were doing and this is why your child is doing bad or not to his/her potential. But you also get a chance to describe the positve things their child is doing as well, so if your in a conferance, the parent usually leaves happy and understanding. On the basketball court its hard to explain your son/daughter is not better than the five out there. So you learn to do it without puting down the child and telling them that he/her is no good. Becuase I want all of my kids to enjoy playing and its a life learning lesson that sometimes things don'e go your way but you can't get up and walk away. I always relate it to the real world they will face in the future. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? The most important thing i have learned is letting things go. If you get griped out by a parent you have to move on. Im a person who doesn't like to have anyone not like me. It was really hard for me to learn this my first year but it was a good lesson for me. Also when a student makes a bad grade on a test and they are really trying hard sometimes they ask me if I can retake the test, but it wouldln't be fair to the other students. But I also make sure the student understands the material before he gets behind. Sometimes this takes my time out of school but i want the best for my students its my job. What unique skills do you have? Im a people person. I like going to a new job and meeting new people. I like to make people laugh and enjoy being around me, instead of complaining about things that have happen to me. Also Im a hard worker and I like what i do and you can never stop learning. There is always new material or new strategies people have come up with to better teach students. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? This is a hard question. Im 30 years of age and you think I would have that figured out. I would like to be a administrator and be known for being a good person who worked hard and was very well liked by all the people that ever met me. Ive never been married yet and that has really bothered me especially when I turned 30. All of my friends are married and have children. And I want a good job where Im happy with everyone around me and have a couple of beautiful children whith a big beautiful house, which is hard in teaching because you live year to year not knowing for sure if your going to be at the same place. And I want my mother, who has had cancer see her grandchildren before she passes away. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? As a teacher you get to meet interesting people in your field. Whether it is at workshops or new jobs. As a coach you travel to different places and you get to met all sorts of people. Also as teaching you always have new and old information that you get absorb in your mind to be a better person and a teacher. No person can say they know the best way to teach. A teacher must strive on new valuable information to better persue their job as a teacher. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? This is another hard question. The only thing that I can think of is that being criticised when you know that your trying the best you can. Please replace this with a question of your own I would like to know if their is any other places on the internet that gives opportunities like this for teachers to travel and get to see the world.
