I would like to buy a house for my family, hopefully in 2 years I will have the money to do so, avoiding adding to the already terrible debt situation in the UK. What countries have you worked in? England only. What countries do you have a visa to work in? None yet. What field do you currently work in? Steel fitter / fabricator, for bridge repair, railway division, site operative. Including rivet removal, bridge renovation and installation. What fields have you worked in before? Grillage fitter, erector. Heavy steel fitting. Delivery driver, automotive trade. Driver at Southampton dockyard. Landscape gardener, groundwork labour. What qualifications do you hold? 5x GCSE A-C Grade A-Level - Business studies Foundation Technology Access Course. HND Mechanical Engineering - Merit. BEng (Hons)Mechanical Design Degree 3rd class. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? An academic foundation is a priceless asset for any employer, as the broad level of understanding and learning can be leaned upon in every aspect of life, however practical based skills cannot be taught in the classroom, experience in trade can be advantageous provided it can be used in more than one job. Describe the benefits of working with others Team working can reduce lead times leading to more efficient output, also collaboration can make problem solving quicker and more varied. Describe the benefits of working alone Without distraction certain tasks can be fulfilled by single skilled operatives quickly and accurately without, conflict or discussion, leading to greater efficiency. What was your worst working experience? Experiencing the aftermath of a successful suicide at a busy railway station. Aside from the mess of the remains of someones body spread over the track, the greatest impact was the group of school kids at the station who probably have nightmares as the result of one selfish action. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Money is not the most important part of a job, it is essential you are happy in your work. What unique skills do you have? 5 years university learning and 3 years industrial experience combined with a positive attitude, excellent safety record, and great people skills. Willing to any job I can learn, any where necessary. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Lead singer of a good band! More realistically however I'd like to operate a solutions business, where I can create bespoke practical solutions for customers around the world. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Aesthetics and finishing is the most interesting part of installations for me as it requires attention to detail and accuracy. As for the industry it is interesting to travel around the country on a regular basis. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Working in dirty, wet, dark, confined, cold places, usually under a bridge, for long hours with no view. Why do I want to risk my life working in a dangerous place miles away from my wife and family? To broaden my life. Dreams and possibilities are common to me, now is the time to do something about it, I have allocated 2 yaers for this venture and hope to return with some of these dreams and possibilities fulfilled.
