MSc Crop Physiology (Reading University, UK) PhD Agriculture same university

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

Both are important: My educational and training background have led me to appreciate the contribution of both to my present status. My high school learning was satisfactory to develop my passion for the job; however, further post graduate studies in the UK have been important to reach the skills I possess now.

Describe the benefits of working with others

In my recent assignments, I have been leading several teams while having to report to general management and have therefore well appreciate the importance of team work; I had to motivate each member to deliver their part and the end results would not have been possible if a few failed to deliver. Team work offered also the joys of sharing knowledge and the recognition of collaborators in the accomplishment of the tasks.

Describe the benefits of working alone

Working alone is mostly satisfying in alleviating the stresses of depending on others to reach the objectives and respecting deadlines. Having to be solely responsible provide a more rapid opportunity to rectify methods and pathways.

What was your worst working experience?

With time and age, I may have forgotten or wiped out bad experiences, hence, I would relate my latest assignmment which is the only one I have ever quited, as the one which provided a painful experience. I was in a situation where I had to constantly motivate the team including trade unions, to improve on performances and yet, I felt (and everyone too) that general management did not care at all about the demands.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

Provided with the appropriate motivations, every member of the team can deliver the results expected: there are no inferior individual but individuals with individual skills.

What unique skills do you have?

It seems that I have very good observation skills as a crop physiologist. However, being personally fairly patient, I am able to take the best out of each member of the team.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

To be able to put into practice a few of my personal agricultural techniques and to be recognized for them.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

It contributes to improve food security

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

In the present world, food production is the least lucrative or financially rewarding compared to trade, banking, or politics.

Please replace this with a question of your own

What can be done to improve the financial status of crop producers?

How can potential employers contact you?
