I am looking to work in Malawi, especially in the rural areas where people do not have quality care of nursing because of shortage of qualified nurses in the rural areas. What countries have you worked in? Malawi only What field do you currently work in? I am currently at Africa University, Zimbabwe, for upgrading, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) untill June, 2010. What fields have you worked in before? I once worked as a nurse at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, male medical ward. What qualifications do you hold? I currently hold a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Skills is more valuable. Formal education without skills, hands-on experience in nothing Describe the benefits of working with others Health care can not be achieved by an individual alone. Working with others reduces work overload, ideas are shared in decision making leading to growth of the institution. When others are involved, there is sustainability of the work. Describe the benefits of working alone It is easy to make a decision in times of emergency because decision made by a team might take time because everyone need to be heard before a decision is made. One is accountable and responsible, there in no shifting of responsibility to others. What was your worst working experience? I worked for a night in the male ward alone with 100 patients, when my collegue did not report for duties. Taking care of the was compromised, i failed to manage the ward alone and i was too exhausted to work. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Individuals are unique and they need to be treated as such. Clients/patients need to be treated as a whole, that is physically, socially, psychologically, spiritually. What unique skills do you have? I am able to take care of a person as a whole and i am a nurse educator What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Emergency care nurse What are the most interesting aspects of your field? When i see clients going home well and fit. What are the least interesting aspects of your field?
