One without the other would leave a serious lacunae when it comes to one's career. Describe the benefits of working with others You grow in any field when you work with others...sharing views and expertise, providing and receiving support and encouragement, validating someone's skill and prowess and receiving validation for your own knowledge and skills. It's always fulfilling and nurturing to work with others in any field...except perhaps in a purely creative field like say writing. Describe the benefits of working alone Like I said, creative fields like writing, painting, composing, visualizing, or may be even designing, bring out your best when you are on your own. A group, in such cases, can become a hindrance to your personal creativity. Apart from that, when you work alone you are your own boss, you have flexibility of time and resources, your time is your own and you definitely have freedom to think and plan. All this encourages further creativity. What was your worst working experience? Working as a junior engineer in a 25-year old ship during my early days as a marine engineer. Working conditions were awful and demands of work extremely difficult (for example, everything that could fail, did fail); but in one year I also learned from that experience what would've taken me three years in a good ship. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? I believe, almost everyone of us has what can be called True Calling. And if we discover it early enough and are able to work in that field, we are at our best in terms if our achievements and creativity...because passion for work always pays off. My true calling lay in Engineering and Writing. I've done exceedingly well in both the fields so far. What unique skills do you have? Creativity, imagination, technical expertise in my chosen fields, a sharp analytical mind, exceptional writing skills, very good in teaching and training. My unique skills therefore span multiple domains. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Understandably, I've more than one 'dream job'...faculty in a college of marine/mechanical engineering, technical/ feature writer and editor, supporting and documenting technical inventions etc. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The combination of mechanical and marine engineering, the combination of technical and writing skills, the combination of science and spirituality... I could go on. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? The unearthly hours of duty aboard a ship. Hurdles caused by bureaucracy and red-tapism while setting up my twin factories. Bad editing jobs done on my writing by editors. What according to you is most supportive of growth in an individual? Being able to give expression to the best within you, the best you are capable of, without hindrance, and in an environment of growth, support and appreciation.
