I would like to teach English to adults and business professionals.I have a BA degree in Law and a post-graduate degree (equivalent to a masters degree in the US) LLB in Law and International Practice (from a South African university with a thesis accredited by Cambridge University, UK). As a TEFL certified tutor I am qualified and experienced to teach English Business Courses and English for Specific Purposes especially in the field of law. What nationality are you? South African with extensive travel, study and work experience in Europe and Africa. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? Proficient in English and Afrikaans.(BA degree in both) Working knowledge of Dutch and Flemish. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Malta because of its scenic beauty and its cultural cross roads between Italian, Arabic and North African cultures. As a student of languages and culture, I am interested in learning Maltese. What countries have you worked in? South Africa, Namibia, Democratic Republic of Congo, and the United Kingdom. What countries do you have a visa to work in? All countries which require a Schengen visa. 10 year American visa. What field do you currently work in? Language director for Enspire an NGO consisting of 6 learning centres for the previously disadvantaged in South Africa and Africa. What fields have you worked in before? Business and law. What qualifications do you hold? BA degree in languages and law. LLB degree in private, public law and international law. TEFL certificate (with added courses to teach adults and business professionals) Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I believe a formal educational basis is the ideal foundation to hone personal skills in areas of interest and passion. Skills can often define the fine line between "making a living" and "making a life". Describe the benefits of working with others I am sincerely interested in people, cultures and places. To teach and travel is my definition of living a fulfilling life. My inter-personal skills combined with a keen mind has taken me all over the world to learn and explore while also adding to other peoplesī skill sets. Describe the benefits of working alone As a private tutor to legal and business professionals, I find working alone benefits the students as I am able to assist their level of proficiency and immediately raise the level of teaching, in order to ensure the best intelligibility in their respective fields of practice. What was your worst working experience? In Africa without proper classrooms or infrastructure, but in the end armed with my inter-personal skills and sheer determination, I convinced the governor of the particular province to assist the local authority and their students. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? An honest interest in your students and their educational needs can make all the difference in their ultimate success. Teaching should be personal, patient and positive. What unique skills do you have? I have an intimate understanding of international business practice and the laws governing commerce and maritime practices. Therefore I have been able to assist individuals in these fields to further their respective careers by mastering English as a second or business language. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Doing exactly what I am doing. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? I appreciate the intellectual and cultural aspects of my field. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Getting the beginner level student to master grammar and vocabulary, before we can begin with more career orientated learning.
