Looking for a Job in Maltese Travel and Touring IndustryWhat type of job are you looking for? I am an experienced travel guide. I started in 1974. Most often I get employed as a travel guide in summer time - but not only; from time to time I did this job as a full-time job. What nationality are you? Bulgarian. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? Bulgarian - fluent, Polish - fluent, English - very good, Russian - very good, Macedonian - very good, German - commanfd level. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? In Malta, because I have heard many times, that the Maltese Travel and Touring Industry is very well developed, and the local labour resources are most often not enough to satisfy its needs. Furthermore, as far as I know the number of Eastern Europeans visiting Malta is growing quite fast. What countries have you worked in? In Bulgaria and in Poland. What countries do you have a visa to work in? I am an EU citizen, so as far as I know I do not need a Maltese work permit. What field do you currently work in? Currently I am unemployed as many others in my country. What fields have you worked in before? In many different fields. Travel and touring, of course, but also in the scientific field, in academic and high school teaching, in microcrediting, in industrial programming, also for some time for the army. What qualifications do you hold? I am a PhD in Physics, a Oualified Academic Teacher, a Qualified Forex Trader. No formal qualification in Travel and Touring, but - see my next answer. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Skills, of course! I am much better in the fields of travel and touring or microcrediting than in physics, teaching or forex trade - for the simple reason that I have PRACTISED my skills in this two fields much longer than in any other field. Describe the benefits of working with others This question does not make much sens to me. There are very few jobs where you can work alone - working with others is simply a MUST! Describe the benefits of working alone I do not think there are many such benefits! What was your worst working experience? An year of high school teaching. I decidedly prefer to work with adults. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? By STEADY! Do not search for reasons not to do the job - better search for ways to do your best! What unique skills do you have? My most unique skills are perhaps my skills in microcrediting, which is neither especially popular nor even legally regulated in Bulgaria. But I do not think I can impress anybody in the West with that kind of skills. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? I think I am most happy just when I work as a travel guide. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The contact with many different people, whom you help to have good time, solve their problems and make them learn lots of new things about different places. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Well - some guys can be really annoying and ungrateful, lording and humiliating the guide, but... thanks God you do not meet such guys too often. For God's sake, how a PhD in Physics can prefer the work of a travel guide? Well, it depends. If he appears to be much better (and much more happy) as a travel guide than as a physicist...
