Seeking employment (part time)What type of job are you looking for? A satisfying and fulfilling job, that will keep me alert and in touch with happy people. What nationality are you? Of Indian origin. What languages do you speak fluently? English, fluent. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? My goals are Westward, as I have ties and a pull since two of my daughters live there, not to mention an adorable grand baby. What countries have you worked in? Have worked in the Gulf (Kuwait) and was lucky to get out just before the war broke out between Kuwait and Iraq. What countries do you have a visa to work in? Have a visa (ten year visit visa) to the U.S. Since, our daughter can apply for a green card once I get there in the month of November, 2010, I plan to be occupied profitably and be productive. What field do you currently work in? Have been involved in mentoring and nurturing underpriveleged, homeless and destitute children in giving them a home and basic education as well as agricultural skills. Love the outdoors, and nature. What countries have you worked in before? Enjoyed working in Kuwait, Arabian Gulf, in different capacities, but basically did a lot of typing on computers, edited work by those who specialized in research and also, was able to co-ordinate between workers and employer. What qualifications do you hold? Have a graduate degree majoring in Economics, and a diploma in typing and office work. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Practical skills, as they help you get the job done! However, a basic formal education is required to help me evaluate and assess the work and understand what needs to be done. Both complement each other, as brain and brawn go together in accomplishing a task well. Describe the benefits of working with others Team work is necessary as no one person can achieve much. The spirit of working and giving of oneself motivates the other to do the same, and there is a healthy environment created in the workplace. To be able to fill in for someone at short notice, temporarily, relieves tension all around, when the situation demands it, or emergency arises. There is strength in unity. Describe the benefits of working alone On the other hand, there are certain tasks that need a higher level of concentration without unnecessary distractions, then a quiet place is favourable and working alone should be the best alternative. Stressful competition is absent, and other negative emotions can be avoided while working alone. Time can be maximally utilised, and there is much flexibility as commuting to work and back can be very arduous and time consuming. However, after a while monotony will set in and that needs to be coped with by taking periodic breaks to be at optimum best. What was your worst working experience? When there is a communication barrier caused by language! It could be hilarious at times, at worst a disaster. Trying to understand English with a thick Arabic accent was stressful in the beginning, but I learnt quickly on the job, and though I made many mistakes which caused me to put forth greater effort and exercise my latent talent that surprised me as well as my employer! One very vivid experience that reduced me to tears, was when my boss was going for an important meeting and told me that I had to have the document all edited and typed before he left, and I was blissfully unaware of the time he needed the job done, when he was ready to go, he called for it, and I was not ready with it. He gave me a good yelling, and I got to work so speedily and had it all done in record time, to his relief and mine !! What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? To give the best I have, and expect no applause or credit for it. So, when you are commended for your efforts, you are surprised and not disappointed. Even though we work for a living, we should not measure our worth in monetary returns, as sometimes, we may come short of our expectations or the employers. A blessed working experience comes from knowing that I have done my very best at all times. This is when I have truly enjoyed job satisfaction. What unique skills do you have? My skills are not very extraordinary, but my uniqueness is, that there are no two people like me!! I am an individual who is learning all the time, and sharing most of the time! If we do not impart what we have, we stagnate and die, but when we give of ourselves to others we will continue to draw like the waters do from a spring. I like to think, that I am a spring. Therefore whatever be my age, I will not be exhausted serving others. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Well, we can dream about a "dream job" But, a dream job is what we make of it. All else is an illusion. I am a practical person, and would like to live my dream. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? A passion for work, and to be an achiever one must account duty as sacred. To be able to complete deadlines, to be able to work when the going is rough, and to be able to make spot decisions in areas where you need to fulfill goals or targets. Assisting doctors to research in their particular fields of study, helps me to broaden my horizons. Editing their work, gives me a sense of partnership in their endeavours and achievements as well. Working on case studies, by collecting data from various books and publications is challenging. Sitting-in at conference meetings is educative especially when we have international figures from other neighbouring countries attend, and I have to get a synopsis ready after a meeting. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Sitting all the time, when there are long hours of work in front of the computer. Lack of air (fresh) indoors. When tedious work is not interspersed with variety and change of environment. Difficult task masters, who do not empathise with you! Commitment lacking in other workers which makes my job doubly hard. What are your expectations, and what is your job interest? I am nearly 53 years of age, and would like to work a one shift job. Would love to have the weekends off, and be able to work at a steady yet even pace. Looking for a job that will help me keep my faculties intact and sharp at the same time, providing a small income for my work. An ideal situation would be a four to five hours job, five days a week.
