| Japan Auto Woes Rev Up And it's been bad news for Japanese automakers lately. Nissan, Toyota, and Honda are all facing a slew of parts and labor issues. Shares of Japanese automakers came under pressure Thursday, after a raft of bad news ranging from parts shortages and plant idling to repairs of as many of 500000 cars. Nissan Motor declined in morning trade after Japan's No.3 said it would idle two US plants in Tennessee and Mississippi for three days because of a shortage of electronic control units. The automaker said earlier it would halt some Japanese production for three days, after Hitachi said delivery of the engine units would fall behind schedule. Separately, Toyota announced it would extend warranties and address US steering complaints on as many as a half a million late model Matrix and Corolla cars. The world No.1 is taking the action to repair vehicles outside the recall channel, as it does not consider the problems to be safety issues. Toyota has already recalled over 10 million cars, while trying to restore its tarnished image. Honda, meanwhile, said an affiliated parts supplier plant in China has been on strike since July 12. Societe Generale's Glenn Maguire says Honda, which has been plagued since May by labor issues could weather hiking salaries.
